With an annual cast of 32,000 the Shakespeare Schools Festival (SSF) is the UK's largest youth drama festival. Every year we work with over 120 theatres and inspire 32,000 young people from more than 1000 schools to challenge themselves through performing. With patrons including Sir Tom Stoppard, Dame Judi Dench and Kevin Spacey, we offer young people and their teachers the chance to direct and perform abridged Shakespeare performances in professional theatres across the UK, providing all the tools, support and guidance necessary to take students of all backgrounds on an unforgettable, life-changing journey.

What is our culture like?

Organisation and culture

We currently have 25 permanent employees, supported by 150+ freelance staff in peak times. We are organised into four teams:

  •           Festival: recruit and support schools and theatres, manage festival operations, promote SSF with education bodies
  •           Development: raise funds, drive commercial revenues, promote SSF with  government and other key stakeholders
  •           Creative: develop workshops, ensure high quality of content and resources
  •           Support: includes Finance, IT, HR
