Start up Direct is the founding delivery partner for the governments Start up Loans initiative. Chaired by James Caan, it aims to promote entrepreneurship and boost enterprise growth in the UK by helping to start up 50,000 businesses over the next five years by providing funding and a range of business support services. Working with our Partnerships & Mentoring Manager and Business Advisers, the Business Support Executive will be the first point of call for entrepreneurs and mentors enquiring about the scheme. They will play a key role in the team, primarily by supporting the mentor manager and assisting in post loan support – including communicating with approved applicants, organising and hosting mentor and post loan events and dealing with initial queries about the scheme.

This role is ideal for someone who is looking to grow in the role and take on additional tasks and responsibilities as they prove themselves.

Key responsibilities

  • Screening the initial enquiries to determine if the applicants are ready to go through to the second stage
  • Ensure all required data and information are captured in order to monitor performance via our CRM and KPIs
  • General admin, managing phone and email requests and customer service
  • Event Management – organising and coordinating events for the program including registrations, speakers, technical equipment, and presentations
  • Follow up with mentors on outstanding documents and progress reports
  • Undertake specific projects to keep update and accurate applicant’s data/ status post loans. (Volunteer  files, match sheet, mentoring emails filing)
  • Contribute to the development of training and support programmes for applicants in order to improve their chance of securing funding and to improve the business survival rate
  • Liaising with mentors and mentees, supporting the mentor manager in the mentor matching process
  • Contributing ideas to the marketing plan
  • Undertake other tasks as directed by the line manager

 Competencies and behaviours

  • Excellent planning, organisational and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to operate in a dynamic working environment, handling multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Accustomed to deliver excellent results against targets and meet deadlines
  • Self-starter and strong team player
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office especially in Excel and Outlook
  • Capable of managing data and completing admin projects
  • Experience working for a small organisation or start-up business an advantage
