Interested in startups or entrepreneurship? Startup Weekend is an incredibly fast growing global charity, providing entrepreneurial education through in-person events and workshops in 120+ countries worldwide and 37 countries in Europe.

We are looking for a Financial Manager to join our inspired and happiness-ignited London European HQ based at Google Campus. NB: This role is based in London. To apply you must be eligible to work in the UK.

ROLE OVERVIEW

We’re looking for a driven, detail-oriented, friendly and approachable candidate to join our amazing European team. This role balances outward communications and community management with internal financial management.

This is a huge opportunity for the right person: passionate about startups, entrepreneurship, empowerment and improving the state of the world through individual agency and collective action.

You’ll be joining a motivated team driven by a “work hard, play hard” philosophy.

A big part of the role is communication with our volunteer organisers (200 events per year in Europe) in order to understand their budgets, support them, reimburse them for their expenses for their events and advise them on ways to creatively use their 'community chest' of money.

Needless to say we're looking for a rockstar but candidates don't need to have that much experience, they need to be hustlers with attention to detail.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Follow local event budgets by communicating with the local Startup Weekend & NEXT Organizers, Facilitators, and Coordinators throughout Europe
  • Create sponsorship invoices and send them to the local and regional partners.
  • Classify sponsorships in QuickBooks that are received via Paypal, check, or wire transfer and notify Regional Managers that sponsorships have been received in their region.
  • Verify that Organizer receipts match expenses, process reimbursement requests, and disburse funds in a timely manner
  • Process event closure reports and track key financial event data/metrics with the support of the Regional Managers
  • Mediate and balance various interests to resolve conflicts and develop and maintain positive, friendly relationships with multiple parties in a given community
  • Send reports to the VP of Finance and European Director on general Financial health of the organization
  • Develop regionalized processes around financial workflows and help improve event-level transparency and accountability

REQUIRED SKILLS

This Financial Manager position is a high-exposure, work-heavy role in which you will:

  • Work experience in a fast-paced environment
  • Thorough knowledge of Google applications (Google apps, Calendar & Mail) and Excel and Word applications
  • Bookkeeping Skills Assessment test – 80% or higher passing grade
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, time-management and planning skills
  • Ability to solve routine problems effectively and prioritize own work and resources
  • Ability to work independently on multiple tasks to achieve accurate results, while consistently demonstrating a positive “can do” attitude.

BENEFITS FOR YOU

This Financial Manager position is a high-exposure, work-heavy role in which you will:

  • Become quickly familiar with the internal operational systems and frameworks used by a truly international, high-growth non-profit
  • Work in a high-energy environment that encourages growth and pro-activity. Our motto is “No Talk, All Action”
  • Meet amazing, passionate, dedicated people from different cultures and backgrounds
  • Begin building an extended network of prominent individuals in the global entrepreneurial/tech community
  • Help make a dent in the universe

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We are looking for somebody who is enthusiastic about entrepreneurship and looking to get immersed into the world of startups. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, a passionate and hard worker, and have great attention to detail.

Bonus points if you have participated/organized a Startup Weekend event!
