Our goal is to help create opportunities through education for some of the most vulnerable children in the world. We work directly with street children in their own environment towards reunification with their families, reintroduction to education & the creation of a sustainable home-life for their ongoing upbringing. From 2010 to 2012 we helped more than 10,000 children gain access to education.

Come and help achieve something truly incredible - a charity marathon in Sierra Leone!
About the Marathon.
Earlier this year we organised the first-ever marathon to be held in Sierra Leone. We had 386 competitors, including 170 international runners who helped raise over £320,000 for the charity Street Child of Sierra Leone.
It was an amazing experience and one that will be remembered by everyone for as long as they live. More importantly though, the funds raised will make a real difference to the children living on the streets in Sierra Leone. This marathon is unique not only because of where it is but because all of the runners were united in raising money for one specific cause and because they were all given the opportunity to see first-hand the impact their donations will have. This ensured a level of engagement most will never have experienced before.
About the Role.
Street Child of Sierra Leone is now offering the opportunity of a lifetime to a small number of volunteers who will come to Sierra Leone and become a central part of the marathon organisation team.
The race will take place on 26th May 2013 and our volunteers will need to be in Makeni from January 2013 until June 2013
We are seeking a hard working, responsible and dedicated individual who will ideally have had some experience in events management, working in Africa or being involved with organising other running races
Roles will include:
- Ensuring race day runs smoothly, including
- Preparing the course
- Managing race logistics
- Preparing start/finish line area
- Arranging entertainment
- Local procurement
- Liaising with local officials, villages and chiefdoms
- Organising tour packages for international runners, including
- organising accommodation, transport and catering
- Recruiting local runners and sponsors
It should not be underestimated how challenging it will be to organise a marathon and accommodate hundreds of western tourists in Sierra Leone!
Volunteers will need to arrange their own flights and make a contribution of £1000 to cover their food and accommodation whilst in Sierra Leone. If you think you can help and would like to take advantage of this exciting opportunity to organise a marathon in Sierra Leone, or would like to find out more, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
