Street Child of Sierra Leone

Street Child of Sierra Leone

Street Child is a volunteer-led charity, which works to help children get off the streets, back home and into full time education. Street Child provides children still living on the streets with vital food, medical care, clothing and counselling. And we help to provide deprived rural communities with their first-ever basic schools.  As a result of our work since 2008, over 1000 children have been reunited with their families, and over 3000 children are now in school. At Street Child, we are very proud of our volunteer-based approach. Our pledge is to spend 90% of public donations in Sierra Leone, and to keep our office overheads in London as low as possible.

ABOUT

About the Marathon.

Last year we organised the first-ever marathon to be held in Sierra Leone. We had 386 competitors, including 170 international runners who helped raise over £320,000 for the charity Street Child of Sierra Leone.

It was an amazing experience and one that will be remembered by everyone for as long as they live. More importantly though, the funds raised will make a real difference to the children living on the streets in Sierra Leone. This marathon is unique not only because of where it is but because all of the runners were united in raising money for one specific cause and because they were all given the opportunity to see first-hand the impact their donations will have. This ensured a level of engagement most will never have experienced before.

About the Role.

Street Child of Sierra Leone is now offering the opportunity to a volunteer to become a central part of the marathon organisation team. We need someone to join the London office (Bishopsgate) and coordinate the planning and logistics of the event.

Roles will include:

·         Overseeing logistics

·         Managing international runners

·         Liaising with the Race Director and the team in Sierra Leone

Other tasks may include research and managing our social media.

We are seeking a hard working, responsible and dedicated individual who will ideally have had some experience in events management, working in Africa or being involved with organising other running races. This is a voluntary position that starts immediately and ideally we would want you to be available full-time, though as many days as possible would be appreciated.

We are looking for someone who is hard working, creative and enthusiastic
