Our goal is to help create opportunities through education for some of the most vulnerable children in the world. We work directly with street children in their own environment towards reunification with their families, reintroduction to education & the creation of a sustainable home-life for their ongoing upbringing. From 2010 to 2012 we helped more than 10,000 children gain access to education.

Twelve years after the brutal civil war, Sierra Leone remains one of the poorest countries in the world. While this small and beautiful West African country is now at peace, our own research indicates that there are around 50,000 children relying upon the streets of Sierra Leone for their survival. We aim to help them all.
Street Child is a volunteer-led charity that works with street kids and out of school children. Working with children still living on the streets, we help them find security through counselling and the stabilising presence of our social workers. We then work towards reunifying them with their families, getting them back in school and helping them to stay there by offering their family small business grants and training. We also help to provide deprived rural communities with their first-ever basic schools giving children the chance to thrive through education.
So far, as a result of our work between 2008 and 2013, more than 2,000 children have been reunited with their families and over 20,000 are now in school. The Sierra Leone Marathon is the charity’s flagship event, having raised over half a million pounds to support children in Sierra Leone. On Sunday 25th May 2014 we will host the third Sierra Leone Marathon and we aim to make this by far our most successful fundraising event to date.
