The Access Project matches high-flying graduates with students from disadvantaged areas for weekly one-to-one tutorials, helping the students to boost their grades and access highly selective institutions.

Working in partnership with schools in London since 2008 we are delighted to be bringing the programme to our first school in the West Midlands this summer term.

We are seeking graduates to begin tutoring the following GCSE subjects:

Maths, English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, History, Geography

We are looking for volunteers for both immediate start, and September start

How does it work?

Tutorials will take place for an hour between 16:30 and 18.30 at the tutor’s place of work, or a library or café, in and around central Birmingham.

What training will I receive?

All volunteers receive a half day training session to build the skills needed to be an effective tutor. Training sessions will take place evenings and Saturdays. There will be optional top up training available after you have been tutoring for 6 months.

What about resources and support?

Tutors have access to our fully-stocked online library of tutoring resources, developed by outstanding teachers, to assist and guide your tutorials; and our dedicated Programme Manager is on hand to offer support.

What will I get out of it?

Tutoring is challenging and engaging, and offer opportunities for developing many skills in many areas, including communication, planning and objective setting, decision making and problem solving. It brings a fresh perspective to your day and is a lot of fun.

What do our current tutors say?

“One-on-one tutoring is equally challenging and rewarding. Finding alternative explanations has definitely developed my own understanding of the subject, which I've been able to take back to my research.” Oli, PhD student, Imperial College

“Luke's call to tell me that he had got into his first choice university was the highlight of my year!” Alice, journalist, Financial Times

‘Every time I tutor Brook, it is the best thing I do with my week” Kerri, Tutor
