The Collective is London’s most prolific film location agency. The unique structure of the company – as the name suggests we are a collective of nearly 200 of The Capital’s most experienced location managers and scouts – places the company at the forefront of the hunt for locations for every high profile production.

 

Due to the tax incentives on offer to overseas productions, the film and TV industry is booming right now. We are extremely proud to name recent or current clients as ‘24’, Fast and the Furious 6, Thor II, World War Z, The Wrong Mans, Downton Abbey, Fleming, Elementary, Sherlock, Diana, Skyfall, Top Boy, Luther, The Smoke, Mr Selfridge, Danny Boyle’s Babylon plus countless more.

 

The foundation of our current position lies in our unique structure: we have secured the exclusive membership of nearly all of London’s leading location managers and scouts. The majority of our location database has been introduced to us by our membership and we donate 25% of our commission back to each introducing member for every hire we administrate. This structure has paved the way for our position as clear market-leader.

 

 

THE ACQUISITIONS DEPARTMENT (written by Acquisitions Manager)

 

The Collective has become the leader in its industry thanks to its constantly evolving library of unique and exciting locations. Therefore the acquisitions department is entrusted with a huge responsibility; to keep developing the library by knocking on, and opening doors to the next big filming locations. This can involve a wide range of duties, from keeping your ear to the ground and becoming an encyclopaedic knowledge of property in London, to standing in the House of Lords pitching and proposing why a location’s doors should be opened to the film industry. We need to be able to clearly convey how filming will benefit the owners, the production, and the wider British Film industry.

 

All of this contributes to an incredibly exciting department; no two days are ever the same and where a quiet hour can turn in to a frantic afternoon very quickly to get a pitch in on time or permission to present a new location to the next big Hollywood feature film shooting over here.

 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (IN ORDER OF IMPORTANCE):

 

1.       Assist and support the Acquisitions Manager in scouting, researching and ultimately acquiring new, prestigious, high value filming locations.

2.       Online location scouting to generate new location leads.

3.       Attending meetings on location and participating in the pitching process.

4.       Creating high impact, informative and accurate location profiles on the website (editing photographs, inputting site information, accurate categorisation and live publication).

5.       Meeting departmental targets with a shared acquisitions bonus structure.

6.       Co-ordinate and develop our team of location scouts to source and deliver potential new, in-demand locations.

7.       To maintain education and learning through reading selected books and regular access to the company’s business mentor.

8.       Keep up to speed on new sales, development and acquisitions of property around London, through publications, industry contacts and networking events. Becoming an expert in this field.

9.       Organising the department's appointments, diary management and preparation for internal/external meetings including creating pitches, proposals and presentations.

10.   Keep in regular contact with our network of Location Managers and property owners.

11.   Photographing the full spectrum of location types - commercial through to residential - to a very high standard.

 

 

THE ROLE (written by Emma, the current Acquisitions Assistant)

 

This role at The Collective has given me access to the most amazing locations all across London. I’ve stood in overalls at a disused power station one day then looking over London in an iconic high rise office building the next. Some days have felt very surreal – if you love buildings and architecture then this role is for you! I love the fact that I’m not sitting at my desk all week; the role is very fast paced and varied. I’ve had the pleasure of working with the some of the most talented people in the industry and I have learnt something new every day.

 

 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL BE (AGAIN, IN ORDER OF IMPORTANCE)…

 

1.       First and foremost be supercharged by the prospect of working in the world of film locations and seeing your handiwork on the big screen.

2.       Tenacious; you will leave no stone unturned when trying to open the door of an exciting high valued building.

3.       Experience and drive to hit weekly, monthly and quarterly targets as both a team and individually.

4.       You will have an excellent understanding of photography to a proven high level. It is an advantage if you own your own professional camera, but not essential.

5.       Naturally confident; able to convey your passion and the merits of the company to anyone you meet.

6.       Unphased by the prospect of presenting in a corporate environment

7.       Strong in design; an ability to create presentations fluently on software ranging from Word to Photoshop.

8.       A natural on the phone; it is almost always the first form of communication we have with new locations.

9.       Ready to impress and constantly exceed expectations

10.   Be able to quickly switch from a supporting role to working under your own motivation.

11.   A genuine passion to learn about all location agency roles, challenges and solutions across the board.

12.   Willing to participate as part of the wider company group (The Collective has two sister companies, Canvas Events and Focus Photographic Locations)

13.   A stickler for detail, and as such a natural tendency to organise.

14.   Be resilient under pressure. At any given moment you may have several different people asking you for information, whilst your core responsibilities remain, the right candidate will not be fazed or flustered by this.

15.   Technically proficient in all conventional Microsoft Office software including Excel.

16.   Knowledgeable of Greater London, the different boroughs, and the desire for an encyclopaedic memory of where different buildings are in the capital.

17.   Knowledgeable of marketing and company social media platforms.

18.   Able to drive and comfortable on the streets of London
