We believe that local NGO’s hold the key to the future development of Sierra Leone. With an increasing need for reliable and efficient local delivery partners, we have set up the Local NGO Support Network to give organisations the skills, support and confidence to push forward the development agenda.

The network aims to build the capacity of organisations so they can best meet the needs of their beneficiaries, partners and funders. As local NGO’s are asked to take on more responsibility in delivering key development goals, we believe it is more important than ever to invest in their training and support.

After consultation with local NGO’s, we have drawn up 6 key pillars around which we will focus our support. We are committed to supporting organisations on an annual basis, delivering key three activities:

1)    High quality and relevant monthly training/workshops.

2)    12 days a year consultancy services.

3)    A dialogue with potential partners/funding organisations

Who we’re looking for?

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed volunteer to help us to gather monitoring information from the organisations in the network, and provide on-going support to The Collective to identify ‘experts’ in Sierra Leone to offer their services as trainers to the network. We also want the successful candidate to help us facilitate group discussions and coordinate monthly training sessions.

Experience and skills needed

Ability to communicate with a wide range of people- in this role you’ll be required to meet with people at all levels of organisations, from interns to Country Directors, so we’re looking for a real ‘people person’!

Excellent listening skills- you’ll need to be our eyes and ears on the ground, helping us understand the needs and progress of our partners in the network

Attention to detail- we want you to be methodical when collecting data on each partner so we can follow their journey and demonstrate how the network has benefited them in a tangible way

Experience working independently as well as part of a team- you’ll need to be able to manage your own workload and use your initiative, as well as work with the team at The Collective

Experience working in the development sector or in a management role- we are looking for candidates who can hit the ground running with experience in development and/or experience in project management.

Resilience- you’ll be the kind of person who can adapt to deal with challenging situations, and doesn’t give up when the going gets tough

Placement Details:

This is a six month placement based in Freetown. Placements are unpaid but the majority of in-country costs will be covered by The Collective.

What’s included?

3-day in-country training

24-hour in-country support
