About us

The EXPEDITION Project is an innovative organisation that supports and initiates social, environmental and tourism projects, while also facilitating and overseeing Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiatives on behalf of corporate organisations. This mission is executed via annual overland expeditions, which are made sustainable through sponsorships, volunteer tourism and independent media productions. Target demographics include corporate organisations, international special interest travellers, community projects and local small businesses. The first 60-day expedition of the year will depart from Cape Town on 1 March 2013.

Why are we exciting?

The EXPEDITION Project offers people a panoramic experience of South Africa while giving them opportunities to meaningfully contribute to worthy social and environmental projects. Its overland expeditions cover large areas of the country, giving volunteers a chance to encounter diverse cultures and landscapes. Its network of tourism partners also provides a wide range of quality accommodation – ranging from guest lodges to community home-stays. The geographical scope and extended duration of the expeditions also make for flexible touring options, allowing volunteers to join for anything from a few days to two months. By 2014/2015 volunteers and staff will be dropped off at our identified projects for longer periods of intensive and hands-on assistance and support.

What can we offer Escapees?

The EXPEDITION Project 2013 consists of two 60-day overland journeys in South Africa. Volunteers may join the expedition at a cost of ZAR 350 a day, which covers accommodation, at least one restaurant meal daily and entrance fees for selected reserves and attractions. Pick-up and drop-off points in main centres make it possible for volunteers to participate for shorter periods of time.

Volunteers are required to assist with research, surveys and media creation (filming, photography or writing). This material will serve to record The EXPEDITION Project’s activities and will be publicised via its media channels in order to provide brand exposure to its sponsors. A self-drive option is also available, which allows volunteers to use their own vehicles but still be involved with The EXPEDITION Project’s activities and benefit from reduced accommodation rates through its network of hospitality partners.
