ABOUT

The OpEd Project envisions a world where the best ideas, regardless of where they come from, will have a chance to be heard and to shape society and the world.  We are a collective of high-level working journalists who actively share our skills, resources, and connections across color, creed and gender lines.  Working with top universities, nonprofits, foundations, and corporations across the nation, we train under-represented experts (especially women) to take thought leadership positions in their fields; we match them with high-level journalist mentors; and we vet and channel the best new ideas and experts to media gatekeepers who need them, across all platforms.  We have been featured in most major media. We have stunning results.

We are looking to build our core headquarters team--which is the connective tissue and mission control that grounds and guides our broader team of working journalists, teachers, and thought leaders across the nation.  We are seeking a very special, high-energy, results-driven person to join us as we continue to grow.  This position is junior but is deeply essential to our organization, and offers both real responsibility and enormous opportunity for growth.  Social vision, accountability to results, ability to work as part of a tightly-focused and fast-moving team, and an ongoing commitment to and investment in our mission is key.

We listen to NPR in our dog-friendly office, constantly debate the news with journalists who drop by for lunch or whatever, have a keg on our floor, and are currently taking our team to Norway as we conduct this search.

Responsibilities:

This NYC-based role involves coordinating and/or managing our office operations on every level: managing, tracking, and efficiently advancing people and processes toward critical outcomes.

*Approximately 50% of the role will involve total oversight of office operations (tracking invoices, contracts, people, processes). A more junior candidate will coordinate these items under our light supervision.  A more experienced candidate will be expected to quickly learn and then seamlessly manage these processes without supervision.

*Another 25% of the role will involve assisting The OpEd Project’s CEO and our senior staff (managing our calendars, researching, preparing for and following up on meetings, etc).

*The final 25% of this role will involve oversight and generation of special projects, some of which may be determined by the candidate’s skill set. To that end, we are interested in hearing from candidates with special talents – in tech, design, media, etc – that they believe will be a contribution to The OpEd Project.

This role interacts daily with our staff of 25+ journalists and teachers across the nation, and will also involve brainstorming with the Founder and CEO. This is a position where a stellar candidate will have the opportunity to do and learn literally everything about a growing social venture, will have real and meaningful responsibility, and will be able to see their impact. Such a candidate will earn the opportunity to rise quickly.

Salary is competitive for junior level social entrepreneurial environments (40 or low 40s) and comes with excellent benefits.

The ideal candidate:

  • Has a “no job is too big or too small” attitude
  • 2-4 years experience working in a fast-paced, team-oriented organization
  • Has successfully managed people, projects, and/or events on deadline
  • Proactive and relentless about finding solutions, without waiting to be told
  • Uber-organized, extreme attention to detail, nimble and seamless organizer
  • Tech savvy (Excel, WordPress, etc)
  • Superior communication skills, including  demonstrated with an internal team
  • Mission driven
  • Team player
  • NYC-based
