About you:

Love having ideas, solving problems and making things happen? Got entrepreneurial leanings? Come and work with us at The Student Room, the world’s largest online student community – we’re looking for a Product Manager!

We’re a business of entrepreneurs. We love ideas that break the mould and challenge assumptions. Everything we do is underpinned by data, and a lean, experiment driven approach. We’re constantly iterating and learning.  This is a role for a person brimming with ideas who has the energy, passion and rigour to get out there and get things done.

Alongside product management you’ll be keeping in tune with developments in the university sector and student culture. You’ll be researching new technology and working with consultants at the forefront of mobile and UX optimisation to make sure TSR is the best it can be.

You need to be:

  • A confident and articulate presenter of your work with strong interpersonal skills
  • Able to perform well under pressure and prepared to put in the hours when a project requires it
  • Open, honest, direct and comfortable in giving and receiving constructive feedback
  • A fast worker and good timekeeper
  • Excited about new technologies, developments trends

About us:

The Student Room Group is the company behind the largest and most useful youth websites in the world and we’re going places fast. Our traffic is growing exponentially; we now reach 8 million unique users a month and have over 2 million registered members. In the last year we grew faster than Twitter and Facebook for the 15 – 24 year old demographic in the UK (comScore).

Working in the Product and Partnerships team, the Product Manager forms the link between development, design, UX and marketing. You will develop the business case for new products and ensure they are delivered to market on time and to budget.

But being a Product Manager at TSR isn’t your standard product management role.

Our ‘product’ has several parts: You’ll be constantly innovating, iterating and improving the most important bits of TSR for our community. You’ll be working to decide what new things we should build, and how to optimise for mobile and other new devices. You’ll be developing new business facing products that give insight into the student world.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Shaping, defining and delivering new parts of the TSR site
  • Researching new ideas and technologies and making a business case for development
  • Prioritising and managing the product pipeline (everyone will want you to prioritise their stuff!)
  • Managing the iterative optimisation of our user experience
  • Project managing  the delivery of external partnership agreements
  • Managing internal and external stakeholder relationships

Skills & Experience:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and advocacy
  • Organised and good at planning
  • We run off ideas and we’re driven by experimentation, so if you hadn’t guessed already we would like you to be creative and analytical – a tricky combo.
  • You’ll need to know your way around a spreadsheet (but nothing crazy!)

  • You will have experience of delivering online products, whether websites, apps or something else. You don’t need to be a developer or a designer, but some experience of working with these roles would be a plus
  • You will have managed projects (at whatever level) and learned from your experience
  • Ideally you’ll have some UX experience, or a keen desire to learn more
  • No level of experience will be discounted, but the role would suit a strong scientific background with proven creative and entrepreneurial leanings

So that’s the job, but that's not all we're about. Whether it's celebrating a job well done over a cheeky drink and a round of air hockey in the TSR bar, or chilling with a BBQ on the beach down at the TSR beach hut, we're a pretty friendly bunch. We'd love you to be the kind of person who'll get involved, have a laugh, but above all be yourself through thick and thin.
