Turtle Conservation Project Sri Lanka is looking for a passionate and hands-on individual or couple to manage its headline project on the beautiful south coast of Sri Lanka.

TCP Rekawa is a fully self-financing conservation project, offering 24 hour in situ protection to sea turtle nests along 2.5km of beach - funding its activities by offering guided night walks along the beach for tourists to view nesting sea turtles. It is featured in all major guide books (lonely planet, rough guide etc) and has also been featured in several BBC documentaries.

We are looking for a passionate individual or couple who would be able to commit to a 12 month placement in this exciting and beautiful project. Accommodation and food would be provided, along with possibly a small monthly stipend.

A background in conservation, while definitely beneficial, is not necessary for this role - the passion and ability to manage and inspire others, along with a truly entrepreneurial mindset are the most important skills required.

The role will involve:

  • Interaction with the local community, beach protectors and guides to ensure all conservation activities are diligently maintained
  • Leading all tourist facing activities, including management of the tourist experience of the famous Turtle Night Watch
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with local hoteliers to ensure the project is promoted to their guests
  • Management of a rolling set of short-term volunteers
  • Establishment of new revenue streams for the project (eg selling local handicrafts, establishing sponsorships or donations, etc)
  • Maintenance of the public profile of the project

If you want to make a difference in the conservation of this wonderful species, and have the chance to run a path-breaking sustainable conservation project, this is your opportunity!
