Our client offers a compelling and challenging opportunity for a Marketing & Sales professional to work in a maturing and scalable company that supports access to energy for low-income households and entrepreneurs in the rural areas of Sub-Saharan Africa.

About the company

The company’s primary activity is to sell and distribute solar home systems in combination with an end-user credit facility. Operations started mid 2011 in Uganda and the company has since sold over 2,500 solar systems through a network of 30 franchises.

Large scale sourcing is delivering significant ongoing cost reductions. In house systems support a highly efficient and data rich back office operation. There are significant opportunities to expand the distribution network while increasing franchise productivity. Quality of installations and after sales is crucial to ensure referral sales and enforce punctual repayment. The company expects to reach institutional break-even by Q3-2013. Operations may be replicated in other East African markets in 2014 and beyond.

About the position

The M&S Manager is responsible for improving the M&S strategy, for achieving sales targets while maintaining high quality levels, client satisfaction and on time payment. Based in Kampala, the M&S Manager oversees a team of 3-5 Regional Managers each managing 10-15 franchises. Ideally, the M&S Manager is ready to assume general management responsibilities within 6-12 months. The M&S Manager reports directly to the MD.

About the candidate

The ideal candidate should fit the following criteria:

  • Self confident, mature personality with excellent communication skills
  • Entrepreneurial, solution-oriented and no-nonsense doer
  • At least 8 years successful experience in M&S, of which 3 years in management
  • At least 2 years sales experience in an emerging market environment
  • University or higher education
  • Wages €3000 - €4000 per month
  • Remuneration includes flexible performance based incentives.
  • Interviews shall be held in Uganda and the Netherlands in July and August.
