Who we are
We believe that you don’t have to go half way round the world for experiences that thrill you, challenge you and shake up your worldview. That’s why we’ve launched a very different kind of gap year.
In a few busy months, we’ve got some incredible partners together – like Teach First, Citizens UK and Centrepoint, won awards, launched our first graduate fellowship programme and got great publicity in the Evening Standard, on BBC London and in The Guardian.
We’re a small and committed team of four who care deeply about being really effective professionals, learning with restless vigour and having fun along the way.
We’re looking for a self-starter who will flourish in a startup leadership role. As Creative Director, you’ll take responsibility for Year Here’s voice, outreach and much of its programming. With the support of our Development Officer, you’ll get out to schools across London to recruit the most ambitious and skilled 18-year-olds. You will also work closely with the CEO to craft events and learning experiences to inspire and challenge Year Here ‘fellows’.
Some of the big challenges that we’d like you to take on are:
Communications – developing a bold, smart voice for Year Here and creating inventive marketing products and events on a tiny budget to spread the word.
Recruitment – launching a nationwide search for the highest-potential 18 year olds – and hooking them in with compelling marketing campaigns and innovative, immersive events.
Training – getting your hands dirty in facilitating the Year Here programme – ensuring that fellows’ experiences are truly transformative.
Strategy – working closely with the CEO to develop smart strategic plans for all aspects of Year Here’s business.
Exceptional communication skills. Interpersonally, you’ll be charming, persuasive and a great listener – helping you build partnerships and develop young people’s potential.
Entrepreneurialism. You’ll be used to achieving a lot with a little. You might have set something up in the past or you’re planning to in the future.
You’ll have a toolbox of creative skills – like graphic design or filmmaking – and the can-do approach to develop ingenious communications and learning experiences on a small budget.
A great head for strategy, coupled with a sharp eye for the detail: you’ll be extremely organised and analytical.
Connected. You’re well connected in your own industry and others, naturally building a powerful network of peers and mentors.
Nice to haves
Familiarity with social innovation and the UK social sector.
A passion for young people and serious social impact.
