Karen is one of our wildest escape stories. She was in Macau, saw a fish spa in action and decided to give up her job as a Quantitative Trader in the City to bring the idea to London. Before I escaped...
Quantitative Trader at Lehman Brothers then a Quantitative Trader at a hedge fund afterwards.
My moment of truth...
Saw the fish spa in Four Seasons Hotel in Macau.
Planning for it...
Built a cash flow model, thought about the process, and did extensive research in the industry. I planned half a year while still at the hedge fund.
The worst and best bits...
The freedom is the best.
The risk-bearing is the worst.
Best advice...
Best advice came from my entrepreneurial boss, who started an Emerging Markets hedge fund in NY which he closed down right before the recovery of the EM markets - never give up... stick with it until it works.
