Currently...

I have just moved from London to Ghana to start a new job at http://http://academy.righttodream.com/">Right to Dream as their Development Officer.  Right to Dream's vision is "to offer underprivileged children who are drawn from a background of extreme poverty, the opportunity to reach their true potential in life through sport and education and ensure that these children are motivated and empowered to make meaningful, lifelong contributions to their community and country".

Currently, there are about 40 boys attending the Academy in Ghana who have all been enrolled in a 5 year scholarship programme.  All of the students attend the international school, develop their football skills and are encouraged to grow on a personal level.

I have only been in Ghana for 2 weeks so far but am loving everything. My role is hugely varied and includes managing and developing fundraising partnerships, teaching, managing all social media and working alongside others to expand the NGO.

I am off to Sierra Leone on Thursday for 10 days to work on the programme that has recently been established there in partnership with http://www.craigbellamyfoundation.org/">The Craig Bellamy Foundation - can't wait.

Before I escaped...

Prior to this, I worked for UNICEF in London on their sport for development team. I was there for a total of just over 18 months and loved every minute.

However, I felt as if I wanted to take on a greater challenge and spend some time at ground level in order to actually see the impact of the work that I was doing.

My moment of truth...

I have wanted to work in Africa ever since I fell in love with the continent about 8 years ago. Turning 25 just over a year ago now suddenly made me realise that it was now or never and that I just had to give it a try otherwise it would never happen.

Planning for it...

Planning was fairly straight forward as I was offered a job and then just had to organise all of the logistics to actually get myself to Ghana. I was lucky to have so much support from Right to Dream and that they have supported me with accommodation etc.

The worst and best bits...

Undoubtedly, the best thing is that I am here and doing what I have always wanted to do!

Worst thing was leaving behind all of my friends and family. But they will be there when I get back...

Best advice...

Stop talking about your dream and do it!  You never know what life is going to throw at you so you have to grab every opportunity that you are given and just go for it.
