My name is Marie and i'm from Montreal. I'm an ex model agent who now works freelance in order to craft my own projects and be my own boss. I'll be launching a web magazine for teenage girls from Quebec, Canada soon. I'm fluent in english and in french. Looking for potential contributors, stories, ideas, publicity, content exchange, etc!
I can help anyone wanting to hear a story, write a text, exchange some content, talk about obsessions & everyday drama, translate from english to french, etc! Any ideas or comments are welcome too!
I'm
currently finishing my BA in creative writing at Concordia University. I had
interrupted my studies when i started working full time, but I am now back to
school for a little while!
I do freelance work for various websites and clients, writing on pretty much
anything: fashion, culture, prose, news, top 10s...
I also run an Etsy shop where i sell vintage clothing inspired by the 90s &
teenage nostalgia: mariemagie.etsy.com
My biggest project right now is to create an amazing website for
french-speaking teenage girls from Quebec, Canada.
When I graduated from fashion school, I worked as an assistant stylist for a while until i decided to continue my studies in Communication. I stopped being a student when i was offered a job as a community manager and online writer for a company owning several websites. A year and a half later, i quit my job because i was offered the 'best job ever', my dream job: a entry-level position as a model agent! I worked 2 years for one of Canada's biggest model agency
When i got yelled at for spilling coffee on an expensive Chanel dress. KIDDING! There wasn't really a moment of truth. I had grown increasingly tired by all the wishy washy babble of the fashion industry. I was sad to show up at the office every morning, only to experience what I felt was constant PR bullshit, first-world problems and irrational drama. All of this for a ridiculous salary. It was time for me to quit, for my own sanity.
I didn't plan anything and trusted Miranda July's words: ''live the dream, potato''!
Except that i missed my tiny models, which led me to think about why i relate so much to teenagers and what i could do for them. This is how i got the idea of creative a website for young girls.
The thing I kept thinking while i was considering leaving my job was ''you don't stay in a position where you are not happy if you can have control over it''. You are in charge, and after all, nothing is stopping you. Nothing happens without a reason.
