Climate Arc’s mission is to accelerate the transition of the world towards meeting global net zero emissions by no later than 2050, and, in doing so, help to create a sustainable and healthy planet for everyone. Climate Arc is founded on the belief that this can only be achieved if the transition is financed at the scale and speed needed according to the latest climate science, including focusing on the need for near-term action.

Currently the financial system is not on track to deliver, and an acceleration of ambition and speed is needed. To achieve this, Climate Arc will address the current gaps head on and aim to create a global collaborative platform where critical data and analysis, crucial for financial decision-making, can be shared and refined amongst financiers, corporates, NGOs and governments to achieve the common goals set out in the Paris Agreement. Climate Arc will address gaps including science-based corporate benchmarks and disaggregated datapoints of corporate action plans, tailored to financial decision-making.

Climate Arc will be unique to the philanthropic community in working with the entire financial system to address climate change at speed and scale. It will combine three critical functions: 1) granting to other organisations, adding much needed capacity and strategy to the sustainable finance community; 2) in-house programmes, including a database platform and incubation for regional finance capacities, to address the most urgent challenges in the financial system; and 3) convening funders, practitioners and other stakeholders.

What you will be doing

  • Develop Climate Arc’s sub-strategy for the financials sector – banks, insurers, investors and other financial service providers - to support delivery of the overall strategy
  • Develop, manage and implement complex research assignments and analytical projects to stakeholders with different levels of understanding of financial systems
  • Establish and maintain strong ties with practitioners in the financial institutions globally to seek net zero solutions
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with our partners and grantees – engaging and advising on research and analysis findings
  • Build and maintain a range of relevant sectoral knowledge and information resources to enable the organisation and its wider community to access high quality intelligence, analysis, and data to inform current and future programme activity

Who we are looking for

  • Significant knowledge of and experience in the finance sector with research capability of banks, insurance and/or investment firms (sell-side or buy-side research preferred)
  • Understanding of the challenges facing financial sector institutions in aligning financing with net zero and how the barriers can be unlocked
  • Understanding of trends in financial regulations and policy shifts and their implications on climate finance and relevant strategies
  • The ability to manage priorities to competing deadlines, thriving on diversity in the role and the opportunity to contribute to the development of a start-up organisation
  • Produce high-quality materials such as numerical analysis, written documents and presentations to short deadlines
  • An entrepreneurial mindset, highly adaptive and energetic, actively creating a collaborative culture with stakeholders at all levels and in all sectors as required
