Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time

Location: UK - London

Compensation: £87,000 - £97,000 / year

Description

A bit about Field

Field is an international builder, owner, operator, of renewable infrastructure. Our Founder and CEO is a successful entrepreneur who previously co-founded a green energy supplier. We have robust pipelines of BESS projects across the UK, Italy, Spain, and Germany - and strong financial backing. Our most recent fundraise was a £200 million investment from DIF Capital Partners. This will support our mission to grow internationally, and ultimately to build and develop a robust global BESS portfolio.

We are an eclectic team with varied backgrounds. Our team has experience scaling billion dollar tech start-ups and building energy companies, as well as deep specialisms in the energy markets. You will learn from and work with a bunch of fun, curious, and entrepreneurial people who really want to make an impact. Together, we will show that batteries are a totally viable part of our energy infrastructure - now, not in some distant future. We have ambitious plans to become the defining new clean energy player in Europe over the next few years, gradually expanding beyond batteries into new asset types.

Your Mission

Field’s legal team is growing to keep pace with the company’s rapidly increasing need for legal support as it acquires and develops battery energy storage projects in the UK and in Europe.

You’ll be joining a team of three busy in-house lawyers. We have some specialisms between us, and need another lawyer to complement the team with real estate skills to own the negotiation of the hundreds of BESS land contracts that we need to acquire in order to develop sites in England, Wales and Scotland (and overseas).

You will be an essential partner to Field’s origination, acquisition and development teams, driving Field’s contract negotiations with enthusiasm and a desire to close them quickly.

We are growing rapidly and so will your responsibilities, so this is by no means an exhaustive list. There will always be room to grow and learn into a well rounded in-house counsel.

Key Responsibilities

This is a role with the opportunity to have massive impact. Key responsibilities including:

  • Draft, negotiate and complete greenfield battery storage options to lease and purchase (England and Wales, Scotland
    • You’ll be responsible for closing these as quickly as possible, working with internal stakeholders and (where appropriate) external lawyers.

  • Undertake land due diligence (title, searches, CPSEs etc) - able to confidently navigate Land Registry, Scotlis and an AI due diligence tool called Avail.
  • Maintain a best in class suite of land templates and playbooks.
  • Draft and negotiate easements, wayleaves, grid disturbance agreements and licences.
  • Support the acquisition process by leading legal due diligence; you’ll be the expert in real estate diligence.
  • A really mixed bag of in-house work - NDAs, commercial contracts, company secretarial work, supporting senior lawyers on more complex matters; that kind of thing.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

A bit about you

  • You are keen to lead contract negotiations on land deals, and close them out very quickly
  • You take pride in the quality of your work, and enjoy balancing the need for speed and attention to detail/accuracy

  • You’re a clear and impactful communicator, able to turn complex legal issues into pragmatic and commercial legal solutions

  • You thrive in a fast paced, cross-team environment; you’re a trusted team player
  • You’re very organised - you’ll be spinning a number of plates at once, so you’ll need to have tried and tested methods for keeping on top of a varied workload at your fingertips
  • You can effectively project manage internal and external stakeholders on due diligence, greenfield transactions and acquisitions.

The skills you’ll need

  • At least 2 years’ PQE in a nationally recognised law firm’s renewables real estate team or in-house at a renewables developer
  • Experience of negotiating options to lease in England and Wales for renewables developers
  • Ideally, you’re dual qualified with experience of negotiating renewable land deals in Scotland
  • Land registry and Scotlis experience
  • Experience of working on acquisition support e.g. legal due diligence
