About the role

Beam’s mission is to give everyone access to human-centred welfare services; we do this by delivering a service directly to those that need it most and by creating advanced technology for the frontline sector. Our work is only possible because of our partnerships with government commissioners, who commission Beam to support local communities across the UK.

In this role, you will be responsible for scoping and evaluating commercial opportunities, helping the bids team prioritise how to spend our time most effectively. This means getting into the granular details of bid tenders, mapping out the financial models for commercial opportunities, and summarising this information through simple to understand scorecards. You'll also be heavily involved in writing bids alongside the rest of the team!

Beam has never been needed more, and we have a huge opportunity to work with government partners to change how welfare services are delivered for millions of people.

You’ll be

  • Scoping live commercial opportunities and upcoming expiries - you’ll dig into specifications, legal terms and broader local and competitive context, while coordinating the partnerships team on upcoming renewals and contract expiries

  • Making recommendations for what we work on - you’ll use your insights to recommend bids Beam should apply for, and work closely with senior leadership to make final decisions

  • Owning and drafting key bids - you’ll work closely with the our government account management teams to standardise how we complete common bids, optimising for high win rates while reducing average time per bid

  • Building our strategy with data-driven insights - using both your insights from scoped opportunities and broader research, you’ll identify key market trends and make recommendations for how Beam should evolve our service

  • Supporting Proposal Managers deliver bids - you’ll support with modelling out operational programmes, estimating financial costs, and drafting, editing & proofreading proposals

  • Supercharging how we work in bids - you’ll own the development of our scoping process, and always be looking for innovative ways to level up what we do, through better processes and data-driven decision making

You are

  • An avid writer - excited to combine the craft of writing with your daily work and develop a career in proposal writing/bid management

  • Detail-oriented - an ability to dig into dense legalistic and financial documentation and pluck out key bits of information, before communicating this concisely

  • Intellectually curious - you enjoy digging into new problems, are interested in understanding how government procurement works, and exciting to play a critical role in building the future of Beam

  • Highly analytical with strong quantitative skills - you’re comfortable with excel / gsheets, and financial cost models

  • Confident synthesising and presenting data - you can build a simple, clear narrative from often ambiguous and complex data and present it clearly to a range of audiences

  • Results driven - you thrive working towards big targets and relish the opportunity to take on new challenges

  • Energised by a busy and dynamic working environment - this role has a high level of individual accountability, and you’ll get energy from working with many teams at pace
