- Role Requirements:

- Proficiency in Figma and common design tools, with a preference for mobile app experience.
- Experience in monetization-focused design within a tech-forward environment is a plus.

As the Lead Product Designer at Flo, you will have a dual role, combining hands-on design activities and team leadership responsibilities. You'll be at the forefront of design in a product stream, playing a critical role in both guiding design directions and nurturing a strong, collaborative team culture.
Your Experience
Must have:
- 7+ years of experience, 2 of which in a proven leadership role. (managing teams of 3-5 preferred)
- Experience guiding and mentoring senior designers.
- Strong communication skills – with the ability to influence others and advocate for design at all levels.
- Good product thinking and a human-centred design approach, excellent UX and UI skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead design projects from conception to completion.
- A hands on approach with a delivery focus and the ability to create interactive prototypes, showing knowledge of composition, colour and interaction design principles.
- Competence in Figma and common design tools.
- Experience with mobile apps.
Nice to have:
- Experience and proficiency in design relating to monetisation and a commercial / revenue / subscription focus.
- Working in a product first tech environment.
What you'll be doing
You'll be responsible for:
As a Lead Product Designer (60% capacity):
- Stream Leadership: Oversee crucial design projects within the product stream. Ensure that all design aligns with the stream’s goals and addresses clear customer problems/hypotheses.
- Hands-on Involvement: Focus on achieving results and to be hands-on when/if needed, with strong resource management skills. This includes leading important initiatives and covering tasks in the absence of dedicated team members.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure all design work in the stream meets high standards. Review and support design proposals, maintaining visibility and transparency of efforts.
- Mentoring: Guide product designers in planning and executing design, helping them develop their skills and expertise.
- Strategy Alignment: help product managers define their product vision, initiatives and roadmap. Ensuring that all work, even if it’s just an idea the team is exploring, is connected to the function’s goals and strategy, and are able to show the connection.
- Coordination: Plan and coordinate design work, ensuring commitments are respected and upheld. Oversee rituals and ceremonies, making them valuable for all team members.
- Making sure all design work is visible through documentation on Confluence, use of a sprint board that clearly shows all initiatives planned, now, next and later and a live source of truth artifact with the roadmap and initiatives that have been / will be picked up. Review the sprint board on a regular basis, making sure tickets are kept updated with information, decisions made, start and due dates.
- Standards and Guidelines: Ensure all design work contributes to user experience improvement, following best practices and accessibility guidelines.
- Present work in design review sessions or demos.
- Working alongside 2 other Product design Leads on cross-stream needs: align on tooling across the company, define quality standards of design across the organization, work on career ladders and more.
- Team Culture: Foster a culture of collaboration and respect within the product, design, and content teams. Promote a sense of trust and cross-functional collaboration.
- Context Setting: Create an environment for the team to thrive autonomously, with clarity on purpose and mastery. Provide tools and context to enable effective work.
- Recruitment and Team Development: Identify skill gaps and grow the team accordingly. Plan for the team's future needs and onboard new designers effectively.
As a People Manager (40% capacity):
- Mentorship and Coaching: Act as a mentor to designers, offering guidance, feedback, and support. Encourage continuous learning and professional growth.
- Career Development: Assist in defining career goals and creating growth opportunities. Develop clear skills matrices and evaluation frameworks for professional development.
- People Processes: Manage key people processes, including conducting salary reviews and performance evaluations. Ensure these processes are fair, transparent, and aligned with both individual and company objectives.
