Design Engineer
Department: Development
Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time
Location: UK - London
Reporting To: Chris Wickins
Compensation: £45,000 - £50,000 / year
Description
In origination you will be involved with the initial identification of sites and creating the concept design that will enable our origination and legal team to negotiate a suitable plot of land.
The project then moves into the development stage and at Field we do a lot of design in this stage to ensure the project will receive planning consent and will be built with minimal variations. It is in this stage that the design engineer takes ownership of the site design and works with our internal experts in planning and construction as well as external consultants to create the battery site that we will build. You will create the 2D site plans, equipment drawings and complete 3D modelling using both Civil 3D and REVIT as well as leading the design health and safety review with all the key stakeholders in the project.
Once a project has received planning consent you will then work with our construction project managers to ensure the project is built in accordance with our design by reviewing and advising on the detailed design drawings from the contractor.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead designer on several projects at different stages of development working with the internal team and consultants whilst using your engineering knowledge to design a site that meets all our requirements.

- Initial concept designs and detailed site plans;
- Single-line diagrams;
- Planning application drawings;
- Land plans;
- Pre-construction information e.g. combined utilities plan.
- Production of 3D site design models using both Civil 3D to calculate site levels and earthwork requirements and REVIT to create the sites in 3D for visualisations.
- Reviews of external designs and drawings ensuring all work meets our requirements and standards.
- Review of tender documents and data sheets to continually develop our in house design knowledge and processes. This will include technical information, construction methods and safety requirements.
- Support of the implementation of Field’s internal data management system and continued process compliance.
- Training and sharing knowledge with other members of the design team.
