Each walk will have at least one Walk Leader trained in Mental Health First Aid. As a Volunteer Walk Leader, you will be crucial in facilitating safe and supportive walking experiences for participants while promoting mental health education and destigmatisation.
Location; Various locations across Hampshire. Top priority is appointing Walk Leader(s) for the Headley Down area for weekly walks each Thursday morning.
Responsibilities:
1. Lead Walks: Lead scheduled walks following designated
routes, ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants.
2. Facilitate Discussions: Foster an inclusive and supportive atmosphere during walks, encouraging open conversations about mental health and well-being among participants.
3. Provide Information: As needed, offer participants
information about mental health resources, support services, and upcoming Walk N Talk events.
4. Promote Safety: Ensure that all participants adhere to safety guidelines and procedures during walks, including proper footwear, hydration, and adherence to traffic regulations.
5. Support Participants: Offer emotional support and assistance to participants struggling during walks, providing a listening ear and connecting them with appropriate resources if necessary.
6. Coordinate with Team: Coordinate with other Walk Leaders, volunteers, and staff members to ensure successful walks through collaboration, logistics, and information sharing.
7. Promote Walk N Talk 4 Mental Health: Act as an
ambassador for Walk N Talk within the community, promoting the organisation's mission and values to encourage participation and engagement.
Qualifications:
- Mental Health First Aid (training provided if necessary)
- Basic First Aid (training provided if necessary)
- Passion for mental health advocacy and awareness
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Reliable and punctual
- Physical fitness and ability to lead walks of varying lengths.
Time Commitment:
Volunteer Walk Leaders are expected to commit to leading at least one walk per week, with flexibility to accommodate their schedule and availability.
Training and Support:
Walk N Talk will provide training and ongoing support for Volunteer Walk Leaders, including training as an MHFAider, First Aid, communication techniques, and walk leadership skills.
