350.org is looking for an Associate Director of Individual Giving to play a key role in driving the growth of fundraising revenue across all individual giving streams.

About the Associate Director- Individual Giving 

This Associate Director role will play a critical role in growing Fundraising Income from all our Individual Giving income streams, including Major Donors, Mid-level Donors and Family Foundations, and small Individual donors. The Associate Director will personally manage the Major Donor portfolio, including identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gifts of donors who give $10,000 a year and above.

The Associate Director Individual Giving will manage three members of the Fundraising team, and oversee the strategy development, establishment, and stewarding of the portfolio of Mid-level donors as well as family foundations and corporations. The AD will hold accountability for and oversight of the Individual Giving workstream.

The Associate Director Individual Giving will report to the Head of Public Engagement and work with them on strategy development and implementation. They will be expected to represent the fundraising team in other organizational bodies and represent the organization at external events and with donors.

The Associate Director will also work closely and collaboratively with the Executive Director, the Head of Public Engagement, members of the Fundraising team, the Board of Directors Fundraising committee, staff members, and other internal and external stakeholders. 

Essential Duties:

  • Design and deploy creative and innovative fundraising plans, tools, and techniques that remain true to 350’s ideals and identity.
  • Working closely with the Executive Director and Department Head of Public Engagement, to develop and implement a multi-year strategy to diversify and grow individual income streams supporting 350.org’s mission and its long-term goals, fiscal health, and organization-wide priorities.
  • Implement and oversee the management of appropriate systems to improve fundraising functions, including but not limited to donor management, forecasting, prospect and donor research, market trend analysis, and other stewardship efforts.
  • Manage and grow a portfolio of more than 200 major gifts donors (defined as those giving at US $10,000 per year and higher), and oversee strategies to steward and solicit major gifts from them in line with 350.org’s global program; 
  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit new prospective major gifts donors by implementing engagement strategies to support increasing revenue received through major gifts toward the overall organizational budget. This includes working closely with team members to identify and qualify current mid-level donors who have a higher giving capacity; 
  • Communicate the mission and vision of 350 in alignment with the organization's brand and communication strategy to cultivate and solicit funding from a multitude of donor sources;
  • Manage and maintain all major gifts donors’ information in Salesforce; 
  • Oversee the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of new prospective family foundations and corporations and oversee the implementation of engagement strategies to support revenue growth
  • Oversee the management of a portfolio of mid-level donors and strategies to steward and solicit gifts from a portfolio of current donors;
  • Collaborate with the Global Finance Director to develop revenue projections, and monitor and report on progress on a monthly basis.
  • Assess fundraising risks, opportunities, and trends and provide regular updates to the Executive Team
  • Work together with the Director of Global Fundraising, engaging with 350.org affiliates and building a fundraising community of practice.
  • Work closely with the Executive Director, the Fundraising team, and the Board Fundraising committee to ensure positive and purposeful donor relations; 
  • Oversee three members of the fundraising team. Also, collaborate with Digital Fundraising and Digital Engagement specialists to support strategies that will increase online fundraising and support from small donors. 

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • Expert technical knowledge on how to grow a financial supporter base in new markets, with a focus on individual donors, in the US, Europe plus others to be identified
  • Ability to design and deliver an Acquisition strategy for new supporters from all markets and a Retention strategy to consolidate our donor base, particularly in the US.
  • Effective line management, support and development of staff
  • Capacity to influence leaders across the organization to act in support of fundraising priorities
  • Ability to drive cross-functional team collaboration, and troubleshoot urgent requests with speed and skill
  • Capacity to assess the external landscape, spot leads, and pivot depending on what is/isn't working
  • Exceptional communication skills to help engage donors, especially around sensitive issues
  • Strong competence in streamlining systems, processes, and ways of working
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues from other departments 

Required Qualifications

  • Believes in the importance of 350’s mission and values, has passion for the cause of building a powerful movement to fight climate change and create a more just world
  • Minimum of seven years of fundraising experience, including successfully raising major gifts, managing and growing multi-million major gift portfolios 
  • Experience in managing individual giving fundraising officers
  • Experience in different forms of organization of work with affiliates and grassroots supporter groups
  • Experience and expertise in building and managing a Planned Giving Program
  • Highly energetic professional with a proven track record and talent for building relationships and managing a pipeline of high-net-worth donors
  • Strong research and analytical skills to identify prospective donors and develop successful cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship engagement strategies
  • Proficiency in the use of Salesforce and ActionKit, with an ability to analyze and interpret data.
  • Superior written and oral communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Entrepreneurial approach to building the fundraising function.
  • Highly sophisticated relationship-building skills.
  • Demonstrated mastery of a wide range of fundraising techniques.
  • Ability to think strategically and creatively.
  • Highest level of personal and professional integrity.
  • Collaborative interpersonal style and high level of emotional intelligence.
  • Demonstrates an awareness of, and sensitivity to, the needs and concerns of individuals from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and orientations.

Desired skills and experiences:

  • Certified Fundraising Executive certificate preferred. 
  • Experience with planned gifts, stock gifts, and an understanding of current digital giving mechanisms 
  • Knowledge of tax laws that impact charitable giving, personal assets, and estates
  • Highly responsive and able to lead initiatives as well as take direction from others

We are looking for someone comfortable working both independently and in teams, highly responsive, and able to lead initiatives as well as take direction from others. 

Position Type: Full-time (36 hrs per week)

Application Deadline: The deadline for applications is 18th October, though we may close the position early if we come across a great candidate. We are keen to fill this position in time for an end-of-year fundraising drive and are ready to act with the urgency required of us to deal with the climate crisis.

Compensation: This position is at 350.org’s Salary Grade 3.3 which translates to 105,000 USD

Location: This is a remote position that we expect to be based in the United States, where the bulk of our individual donor base currently is. We can hire in the following states: CA, CO, CT, D.C., GA, MA, MD, ME, MT, NC, NJ, NY, PA, VA, VT, WA, or WI
