Role Requirements:

The role
GoHenry is seeking a Legal Counsel to support our legal operations and ensure compliance within our growing fintech environment. This person should have a solid foundation in financial services law and regulation and a willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic setting.
In this position, you will assist in managing legal risks and ensuring that our products and services meet regulatory requirements while supporting our business goals. Your contributions will be key as we continue to expand and enhance our offerings.
Responsibilities
- Advising on payments regulations, including Payment Services Directive 2 (PSD2), Electronic Money Regulations (EMR), FCA and PRA rules, and broader financial services compliance.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including merchant agreements, partner agreements, and customer terms and conditions
- Assist in managing the company’s regulatory licences and interactions with regulatory bodies (e.g., FCA)
- Maintain productive relationships with external counsel to manage GoHenry’s UK’s business needs and relationships cost-effectively and efficiently.
- Assisting with key projects for the wider Acorns Group, including commercial transactions, contract playbooks, terms and conditions, new product development and other strategic projects.
- Work closely with teams across the business, including product development, compliance, risk, IT, and customer support, to embed legal considerations into day-to-day operations
Requirements
- 3+ years of relevant experience in a law firm and/or in-house providing legal advice regulated financial services such as payments regulations, including Payment Services Directive 2 (PSD2), Electronic Money Regulations (EMR), FCA and PRA rules, and broader financial services compliance.
- Experience advising businesses that are authorised by one or more UK financial services regulators preferred.
- Ideally some experience in corporate transactions, new product development, data privacy and/or corporate governance.
- Interest in working on legal matters across Acorns Group (GoHenry’s parent company) and advising business stakeholders located in the US, UK and Europe.
- Clear communicator with excellent writing, analytical and interpersonal skills.
- Highly organised, detail-oriented and execution-focused, with the ability to work independently and with a cross-functional team on numerous complex matters simultaneously and prioritise tasks in line with business goals.
- In-house experience with a global fintech or financial services company a plus
