- Advise on global privacy laws, including GDPR, and ensure compliance across multiple jurisdictions.

Overview
Braze is seeking a dedicated privacy lawyer to help us navigate the evolving landscape of privacy law, focusing on GDPR and addressing compliance in various jurisdictions, including the EU, UK, U.S., Brazil, Korea, Singapore, Australia and Japan.
This individual will advise across all areas of privacy, including vendor agreements, handling of employee PII, marketing rules in different countries, working through customer queries and negotiations and handling data subject requests. Braze has a mature privacy program and this team member will play a key role in our compliance and accountability measures.
We're looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys a challenge, is self-motivated, goes the extra mile, can effectively juggle multiple projects, and is willing to learn, pitch in and play a significant role. Strong relationships with internal stakeholders are a must, and you'll need to effectively collaborate with colleagues around the company to solve intricate problems. You’ll work with outside counsel, help educate our internal clients, and play a role in building out our privacy program.

This role will report to the Director - Privacy and DPO who is based in London, UK. This team member will be London-based and must be able to work in the office a few days a week.
Key Responsibilities
- Stay up-to-date with the changing global privacy landscape, including keeping track of key EU and global case law and regulatory decisions.
- Assist the Privacy Team to make necessary policy, procedure, and contractual changes to keep pace with legal developments.
- Contribute to privacy operations for our Privacy Program. Our Privacy Program mandates various compliance activities which must be addressed and documented. These activities include, but are not limited to, updating policies and notices (cookies, website, employee, candidate, data retention, etc.) and ensuring correct filing of old and new versions, completing data protection impact assessments, data mapping, and responding to and managing data subject requests.
- Assist on customer negotiations and advise on vendor and Data Protection Addenda.
- Assist customer-facing teams with prospect and customer privacy questions.
- Advise global marketing teams on country specific marketing laws that impact their initiatives.
- Ad hoc privacy project work, such as policy and process updates and enabling teams on their implementation, and monitoring compliance. Driving privacy projects will typically require legal research skills, developing resources and training, and demonstrating project management skills.
- Respond to customer queries that come into the privacy inbox.
- Work on internal and external audits, including contributing to security accreditations as far as the themes relate to data protection, and respond to questionnaires.
- Serve as a point-of-contact across the company and be a strong advocate for a privacy-first culture.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will:
- Have a law degree.
- Have at least 5 years of relevant work experience.
- Have experience in privacy, including a working knowledge of the GDPR.
- Have or be willing to obtain a privacy certification, such as the CIPP/E and CIPP/US.
- Ideally have worked in tech or SaaS or be familiar with tech or SaaS privacy issues.
- Be detail-oriented.
- Have excellent negotiation, drafting, analytical and communication skills and ideally have some commercial/transactional experience.
- Be adept at legal research.
- Be passionate about understanding the tech world from a privacy viewpoint.
- Be motivated and hard-working.
- Good time management skills.
- Have a fantastic sense of humour.
