Role Summary:
- Lead the development of groundbreaking methodologies for ESG regulatory products.
- Collaborate with product managers, research teams, and IT to transform product ideas into market-ready solutions.
- Maintain and improve existing product methodologies, including creating essential documents and publications.
- Conceptualize and scope key features for product methodologies, focusing on the Sustainable Finance regulatory landscape.
- Develop regulatory monitoring techniques and produce related documentation and thought-leadership papers.
- Utilize Python and Excel to develop analysis tools and quality assurance processes.
Role Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in economics, finance, law, data science, or a related discipline.
- 4-6 years of experience in sustainability reporting, sustainable finance, or related fields.
- Expertise in the EU Sustainable Finance regulatory landscape and quantitative analysis.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills and the ability to manage strategic projects.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, VBA, and familiarity with Python, R, or other statistical software.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, independent work ethic, and strong communication skills.
- Experience in financial services or strategic consulting is a plus, along with SQL, PowerBI, and professional titles such as CFA, CAIA, or FRM.
Position Purpose / About the Role The position is of strategic importance to the company as you will contribute to the development, maintenance and enhancement of Sustainalytics’ regulatory product suite, including the company’s EU Taxonomy, SFDR PAI, EU Benchmarks (BMR), and Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) offerings, as well as other products designed in the field of ESG regulations. In this position, you have the opportunity to do pioneering work and be part of a team that values entrepreneurial thinking and the ability to drive improvements in our product offering. You will collaborate closely with product managers, research teams and IT to develop product ideas into market-ready products. The role comprises also the maintenance of existing product methodologies and the creation of methodology-related documents and publications.
Key Responsibilities Conceptualize and scope key features of product methodologies. Convert product and analytical ideas as well as regulatory requirements into data-driven models that can be implemented and tested. Oversee the creation or enhancement of methodologies for products that deal with the Sustainable Finance regulatory landscape, with focus on the CSRD and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD). Develop regulatory monitoring techniques and steer the creation of relevant documentation. Collaborate on methodology and analytical development with regulatory and product innovation colleagues. Steer the development and maintenance of analysis tools in Python and Excel in order to evaluate the impact of methodological changes on companies and portfolios. Collaborate with regulatory oversight colleagues in building quality assurance tools and processes. Create documentation on the methodologies or methodological changes. Collaborate with external teams within Morningstar Sustainalytics in the implementation of methodologies and products. Interpret, visualize, present and explain results of quantitative analyses and reports. Create thought-leadership papers.
Qualifications, Skills & Competencies Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in economics, finance, law, data science, or related discipline. 4-6 years of relevant work experience in sustainability reporting, sustainable finance, sustainability standards, or related. A strong skillset that includes a background in quantitative analysis, financial statement analysis, an understanding of the EU Sustainable Finance regulatory landscape, in particular EU Taxonomy, SFDR, Benchmark, CSRD, CDDD and resulting investors’ needs and challenges. Ability to work cross-functionally with ease and manage competing interests to deliver strategic projects efficiently and effectively, compromising where needed. Attention to detail, good understanding of regulatory texts and jargon, structural thinking with strong conceptual capabilities as well as understanding of global regulatory dynamics. Strong MS Excel knowledge including VBA; experience in Python, R or other statistical software General leadership skills; embracing responsibility/accountability as well as decision making. Ability to work independently and within a strong team environment Strong communication skills (in writing and verbally); Strong organizational skills, including attention to detail and multitasking skills. Structured and critical thinker with strong analytical and conceptual capabilities; out-of-box-thinking welcome. Alignment with the culture and mission of Morningstar Sustainalytics. Experience working with clients in the financial services industry or in a strategic consulting role is an asset. Competences in statistics, programming, econometrics and mathematical modelling are a plus. SQL and PowerBI skills considered an asset. CFA, CAIA or FRM titles considered an asset.
