The role
This is a leadership role within a high functioning data and analytics team that consists of Data Engineers, Analytical Business Partners and Data Scientists. With end-to-end accountability (from data ingestion to metric reporting) you’ll deliver business critical reporting and insights to the wider business.
Managing two data engineers, you’ll be plugged into the heartbeat of the business and be able to prioritise and manage the workload of your team in an effective and transparent way. You’ll build great relationships with your stakeholders (both upstream and downstream) enabling you to make good decisions that maximise the impact on the wider business.
Your strategic mindset and thought leadership will quickly become a valuable asset for the company and you’ll be the ‘go-to’ person for data warehouse design, data modelling best-practice and tool selection. Your technical expertise will enable you to be a hands-on contributor and an excellent mentor, and your commercial acumen will show through in the decisions you make and the way you work.

Your responsibilities will include:
Strategy and Planning
• Own and refine the long term Data Engineering Strategy, aligning to wider business objectives and technological advances in the Data Engineering space.
• Produce, get buy-in and communicate, ambitious quarterly roadmaps for the team. Own the Data QBR, and cascade through to measurable OKRs for yourself and your direct reports.
• Partner with key individuals in the business (Lead Engineers, the wider data team heads, regulatory professionals) and outside the business (vendors, Google partners) to ensure we are doing the right thing by our stakeholders and our patients.
Capabilities
• Partner with the infra team to ensure engineering standards and ways of working are upheld
• Manage the orchestration of the data engineering processes effectively
•Light up new data sources as the business scales its offering and footprint
Tools management
• Manage the relationship with key vendors to ensure we are leveraging the tools in on optimal way, ensuring best value for Numan.
• Evaluate and make recommendations on new tooling
Pipeline Health & Data Quality Management
• Ensure the ETL and live reporting processes deliver timely, accurate and relevant downstream KPIs
• Light up metric alerting to capture metric-shifts, staleness of data and any issue relating to data integrity
Consumption Management
• Be the consumption champion for data and reporting access, enabling improved data literacy at Numan, allowing everyone in the company to be a data analyst. This will be achieved through discoverable and consumable documentation, training, helpdesk, newsletters and ‘lunch and learns.
• Working with the wider team you’ll see the function as a ‘learning hub’
• Manage data access and security privileges across the stack.
You’ll be
• Highly skilled with SQL, both at production grade and analytical level, gained through intensive application in a commercial business environment.
• Extracting, transforming and transporting data within and between data environments.
• Gaining hands-on exposure to development of ‘data views’ with one or more BI tools such as PowerBI, Looker, Tableau, Microstrategy.
• Excited at the prospect of owning the best data and analytics infrastructure in a rapidly growing consumer healthcare business.
• Managing a high functioning team, and are energised by interactions with people, and are passionate about ensuring individuals reach their full potential.
• Possessing thought leadership on Data Engineering best practices, and what ‘good looks like’ from a consumption-layer design perspective.
• A pragmatic self-starter with a proven track record for delivering impactful work.
Tech stack
Our current Data Platform (Stack) comprises; Google Big Query, Fivetran, dbt & Looker. As pipeline owner, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape our platform and tooling going forward.
It's a bonus if you have
• Python skills.
• Worked with dbt previously.
• Experience in orchestration tools eg Dagster, AirflowLookML skills.
• Knowledge of Software development best practices.
• Worked in a digital healthcare environment.
