Organisation summary: Rivan Industries is on the forefront of synthetic fuel innovation, aiming to decarbonize heavy industry with its groundbreaking power-to-fuel technology. Powered by utility-scale solar, Rivan's mission is to provide a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels, thereby contributing to the preservation of our planet. As part of a well-funded and passionate team, you'll have the opportunity to see the tangible impact of your work on a global scale.

  • Lead the scale-up of system circuitry and safety for a high-impact power-to-fuel machine.
  • Work alongside a dedicated team to optimize solar power systems and streamline electrical architecture.
  • Design safety processes and ensure adherence to relevant standards, including HAZOPS.
  • Engage in hands-on deployment and operational process development.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in electrical or mechanical engineering.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Expertise in large scale DC power system design, build, and operation.
  • Proven ability in handling and prototyping DC systems of 1000-2000v.

To apply, showcase your project execution history by emailing [email removed - click apply for more details]. Include examples of projects you've led or designed, emphasizing your hands-on experience over your CV. Impress us further by sending your best design on DC solar coupling to a DC electrolyser with limited controls!

Rivan Industries (Rivan.com) is a synthetic fuel company designed to decarbonise heavy industry. We’ve developed a unique power-to-fuel machine built for low-capex deployment powered entirely by utility-scale solar. Here’s our entire business plan. We already have individual operating modules of our machine, we’re funded, and we’re now building out the team to bring the vision together and deploy at scale.

We aim to make synthetic fuel cheaper than fossil fuels and sustain life on earth by keeping the CO2 locked underground. We’re looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead our current Electrical Engineer to scale our system circuitry and safety. If you want to work on a high-impact technology that you’ll see the impact of in the world surrounded by smart people working with a sense of urgency and intensity – this is for you.

The role:

  • Optimise solar power system
  • DC solar to DC load coupling with limited middleware or controls
  • Reduce complexity and cost
  • Optimise and simplify overall system electrical architecture
  • Power supply distribution
  • Control system
  • Instrumentation
  • Design electrical system safety process
  • Relevant standard adherence and HAZOPS
  • Deployment and operation processes

Core skills:

  • 5+ years professional experience
  • Bachelor’s or Masters in electrical or mechanical engineering
  • Large scale DC Power system design, build and operation experience
  • Experienced in handling and prototyping DC systems of 1000-2000v

The things that are important to us for this role:

  • Execution history. What have you built or designed before where you had the responsibility? Project history is key.
  • Reasoning by first principles. Can you deconvolute complex scenarios into their foundational truths or parts?
  • Urgency. We don’t have time to wait, are you comfortable with a high-degree of risk and pressure to move fast?
  • Grit. How relentless will you be despite set-backs? We’re going up against some big opposition.

The things we don’t care about very much:

  • Where you went to school / education
  • Where you have worked previously

Specifics:

  • £70-80K Salary depending on experience
  • Significant share options as part of the early team
  • In-person work at our HQ in Bermondsey, South-East London
  • Flexible time-off

To apply, email why you’re great for this role to [email removed - click apply for more details]. The only thing we’re looking for is execution proof – so any projects you’ve built from the ground up or were responsible for are way more important to us than a CV.

Or, better yet, send your best design on how you’d couple DC solar to a DC electrolyser to buffer the disconnected polarisation curves using only limited controls or middleware!
