Role Summary:

  • Independently oversee the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) department in Tanzania.
  • Manage a team of MEL professionals and part-time Enumerators responsible for a broad range of tasks from field testing to data analysis.
  • Play a critical role in developing survey designs, refining survey instruments, and performing data analysis.
  • Mentor and review M&E managers' performance to foster high data quality standards.
  • Execute in-field procedures and regular training sessions to enhance data collection skills and address performance issues within the team.

Role Requirements:

  • 2+ years of experience in research designing, evaluations conducting, data collecting, statistical analysis, and team leading.
  • Proficient in evaluation techniques like regressions and propensity score matching with experience in software like STATA or R.
  • A Bachelor's degree in relevant fields with English proficiency mandatory. Master's degree and knowledge of Swahili is a plus.

The role of the Tanzania Research and Evaluation Lead is a critical position within our organization. You will independently oversee the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) department in Tanzania, taking responsibility for impact evaluations and other studies aligned with our program goals. Reporting directly to the Global MEL Regional Manager, you will manage a team responsible for MEL processes and foster creativity and process improvement. Your leadership will be vital in developing survey designs, conducting field testing, refining survey instruments, and performing data analysis to generate actionable insights.

Your responsibilities include overseeing the management of the in-country MEL team, which supports over 60 part-time Enumerators. You will mentor M&E managers through field visits, meetings, and professional reviews, ensuring high data quality standards. Supervision of in-field follow-up procedures to address data quality issues promptly is also part of your role. Additionally, you will facilitate regular training sessions to enhance the skills of data collectors, address performance issues, and support career growth and development within your team.

Candidates should have at least 2+ years of experience in designing research tools, implementing evaluations, data collection, statistical analysis, and team management. Strong quantitative skills, knowledge of evaluation techniques such as regressions and propensity score matching, and experience with software like STATA or R are required. A Bachelor's degree in Research Methods, Statistics, Economics, Agronomy, or a related field is essential, with a Master’s degree preferred. Proficiency in English is mandatory, and knowledge of Swahili is an advantage.
