The AI & Automation team at Marshmallow is at the forefront of transforming customer engagement through intelligent, agentic AI solutions. This team plays a vital role within the Retention tribe, focusing on developing conversational AI technologies that support complex customer journeys such as policy renewals and retention negotiations. Working closely with cross-functional partners across Product, Operations, Finance, and senior leadership, the team ensures that AI-driven solutions are robust, compliant, and aligned with strategic objectives.

As an AI Applied Scientist, your role will involve leading the development and refinement of customer-facing AI agent solutions, particularly through our Sierra platform. You will work at the intersection of data science and AI application, driving the evolution of high-performing, robust systems capable of handling complex, real-world interactions such as retention negotiations and personalized customer engagement.

Your responsibilities include designing, developing, and implementing conversational AI models, establishing evaluation frameworks to ensure quality and compliance, and iterating on AI capabilities to enhance customer experience. You will own the end-to-end lifecycle of AI deployments, including prompt design, context management, and troubleshooting to optimize conversational flow. Collaboration with cross-functional teams is key, and you will serve as a technical bridge, effectively communicating complex AI concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

We are looking for someone deeply curious about AI, especially in customer-facing generative AI and conversational agents. You should have proven experience working with large language models, prompt engineering, and integrating third-party AI platforms. Strong SQL skills, excellent communication abilities, and a passion for solving high-stakes problems are essential.
