As part of the Spaceship EAC initiative, the intern will work with a cross-functional team dedicated to researching low Technology Readiness Level (TRL) technologies for future lunar missions. The key responsibilities include assisting in campaign coordination, logistics, bridging science and operations, and data analysis.

Role Requirements:

  • Must be university students, preferably at the master's level.
  • Enrollment at the university for the entire duration of the internship.
  • Good command of English or French. Knowledge of another ESA Member State language is a bonus.
  • Experience in mission simulations, field campaigns, or analogue environment is desirable.
  • Familiarity with tools for scheduling, documentation, and scientific workflows is advantageous.

Application Process Details:

  • Apply through the ESA website.
  • Refer to the ESA Core Behavioural Competencies guidebook for further information on required competencies.

Our team and mission The Directorate of Human and Robotic Exploration (D/HRE) at ESA is dedicated to supporting and coordinating efforts towards human spaceflight and robotic exploration. We are part of the European Exploration Envelope Programme (E3P), which integrates all ESA activities in this field to ensure a unified exploration process. Our strategic plans aim to secure a central role for Europe in global space exploration initiatives, focusing on destinations such as Low Earth Orbit (LEO), the Moon, and Mars.

The role As an intern in the 'Spaceship EAC' initiative, you will be working with a multidisciplinary team at the ESA European Astronaut Centre (EAC). This team is focused on investigating low Technology Readiness Level (TRL) technologies to support future cislunar space missions and surface activities on the Moon. Your main activities will include assisting in campaign coordination, logistics support, bridging science and operations, and supporting data analysis and documentation during the Flexhab Pilot Campaign.

Job requirements Candidates must be university students, preferably at the master's level, and must be enrolled at their university for the entire duration of the internship. A good knowledge of English or French is required, and knowledge of another ESA Member State language is an asset. Desirable experiences include mission simulations, field campaigns, or analogue environments, and familiarity with tools for scheduling, documentation, and scientific workflows.

Benefits This internship offers a unique opportunity to engage in hands-on lunar analogue mission activities and gain insights into the challenges of human surface exploration. You will contribute to a scientific paper and ESA's strategy for sustainable crewed habitat operations.

Applications details Interested candidates are encouraged to apply through the ESA website and refer to the ESA Core Behavioural Competencies guidebook for further information on the required competencies.
