Senior Site Reliability Engineer

Join WeGift as they are looking for a Senior Site Reliability Engineer

Now more than ever, people want every experience to be instant and on-demand. And when it comes to getting paid, people want their cash yesterday. But every year organisations waste time, money, and energy sending more than $20 Trillion in payouts to individuals using cash, checks, credit, debit, prepaid, and gift cards! Held back by the legacy banking systems, crushed by the costs and complexity of credit cards there is this monster industry still lingering in the digital dark ages.

At WeGift we’re changing all that. We’ve built our proprietary payment rails that enable any organisation to send money to any individual, anywhere, instantly. No bank account required. No insane interchange fees. We even get up to 25% in commissions from retailers for driving sales which we pass on to our customers. It’s discounted money! We’re throwing away the old model, and transforming how we move and use money forever.

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, colour, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.

Our Team

We’re building a Product & Engineering team where people can do their best work that sits right at the heart of the business. We want to hire talented engineers who see WeGift as an opportunity to grow and to make an impact.

We have Python and TypeScript services running across Kubernetes (EKS) and Lambda functions. Our persistence is largely Aurora (Postgres) but new services will also be leveraging DynamoDB and their event triggers. We have structures in place from hiring and levelling to how we make technical decisions that will allow the right people to thrive! We want world class engineers to be a part of that journey.

Our Work

Future projects you might be involved with include:

  • Continued development of our infrastructure. We pride ourselves on being at the cutting edge, and want to stay that way. For example, how can we make it even easier to get new functionality quickly into the hands of our customers?
  • Technical resilience. As we become more integral to our customers’ businesses, how can we make sure that we can continue to serve them even when there are technical or logistics issues upstream?

The Role

Collaborating with our super talented engineering team, you will be responsible for defining, maintaining and improving how our engineering teams function. From deployments to infrastructure and metrics - you’ll enable the team to move faster and continually improve their practices. You will have the opportunity to work with a modern stack and serverless cloud infrastructure whilst guiding and mentoring more junior engineers in the team.

At WeGift you will get to work with a lot of exciting new technology.
We rely heavily on the following tools and technologies:
  • Python to write our application code (we also use Vue.js on the front end)
  • AWS for most of our infrastructure
  • Kubernetes to schedule and run some of our services
  • Datadog to monitor all our services
  • SQS and Celery for our asynchronous message queues
  • Postgres and DynamoDb, with a redistribution cachefor most persistent data storage

What Excites You

  • Improving partially managed infrastructure like K8s as well as pushing towards more serverless technologies like lambda’s and DynamoDB
  • The opportunity to make significant enhancements to the engineering teams operational efficiency and providing guidance and mentorship to upskill the wider team.
  • Develop our metrics, monitoring and observability tools to maintain and track the highest levels of uptime and embedding operation excellence procedures to reduce and manage any outages and increase response and resolution
  • Using your expertise to provide insights on new tooling to further develop our existing infrastructure and enabling the team by educating on best practice and process.
  • Partnering with our information security team, advising on the best security tooling to minimise threats to our platform as we continue to scale.

What Excites Us

  • The ability to be able to operate as a sole Site Reliability Engineer, comfortable driving all initiatives in relation to our complex infrastructure with a depth of experience at Senior or Principal level leading, or guiding multiple engineering teams to ensure best practice.
  • Expertise in the design and build of cloud based infrastructure and it’s services - we use AWS (EC2, Lambda’s, EKS), but experience with GCP or Azure and their services is good for us.
  • Experience writing high performant, clean code. We use Python but have the frameworks in place for an easy transition
