Business Development Officer

Want to work for a small start up (with big dreams) helping to allow leaders with babies or young children to maximise their leadership careers? We're looking for a brilliant individual to come in and have a big impact.

You will work in a small startup with big dreams as our Business Development Officer. In this new role, you will be responsible for developing partnerships with employers who offer the Fellowship to their employees and you will develop relationships with organisations and networks who can promote our award winning Leaders Plus Fellowship Programme and any other products we will develop in the future.

Who Are We?

Leaders Plus is an award-winning social enterprise dedicated to supporting leaders with babies and young children to progress their leadership careers. Too often, parents feel they have to choose between being a good parent and a fulfilling leadership career, we exist to change this. Through our award-winning Fellowship Programme, we have supported over 150 Fellows helping them navigate this life-changing phase of their career ensuring they continue to thrive and progress in leadership roles.

We are part of Cambridge University Social Ventures and have won the 50 New Radicals Award for our work with the Fellowship Programme. Our Founder has won an MBE for her work setting up Leaders Plus. Our social enterprise is at a crucial stage of growth and this role will be critical in helping us to scale further. You will join a small team consisting of a number of fantastic and very supportive freelancers, Verena Hefti (CEO and Founder), our Programme Officer, Helen Fraser and yourself.

Job purpose

Do you want to play a part in helping leaders with young children achieve their career aspirations? Are you a brilliant salesperson and excellent at developing long term partnerships? Are you highly organised and enjoy getting stuff done? If ‘Yes’, then you could be our next Business Development Officer.

Reporting directly to the CEO and Founder, you will lead the business development and PR activities for our work and be the point of contact for any individuals who want to work with us. You will play a pivotal role in supporting us to grow the Leaders Plus Fellowship Programme so that we can support more leaders with young children to progress their careers and drive positive change for others.

Key Responsibilities:

Build advocates

  • Harness the value of our first class reputation Extend the reach of our word of mouth recommendations
  • Ask for recommendations and introductions
  • Build relationships with new organisations who can promote and advocate for us

Attract new employers to work with us:

  • Follow up on recommendations
  • Create and manage a new business development pipeline
  • Approach organisations coldly
  • Build opportunities for senior leaders in potential partner organisations to engage with us

Excite and engage employers:

  • Create opportunities for exciting engagement with our work for example events Inspire employers through creating thought leadership and opportunities to connect and contribute to the vision
  • Create and implement effective cultivation plans
  • Manage our CRM system and communicate with employers regularly
  • Support the CEO with administration linked to engaging employers (e.g. booking meetings)

Attract new organisations who can offer bursaries or part funded spaces

  • Build relationships with organisations who can offer bursaries or part fund spaces on the Fellowship (e.g. one of our current partners is the Royal College of Emergency Medicine)
  • Approach organisations coldly or via existing relationships
  • Help develop engagement opportunities to provide thought leadership and/or give our employer partners the opportunity to drive change for others
  • Run events and round tables that are highly valuable, fresh and thought provoking for our employer partners
  • Create opportunities for employers to help drive change for working parents and be part of a movement for change.
  • Communicate with interested individual Fellowship applicants from the beginning to the end
  • Have discovery calls with potential Fellows
  • Keep a meticulous list of applicants and follow up where needed


PR:

  • Find opportunities to promote our work e.g. on blogs, in gender network groups Find speaking opportunities for the CEO
  • Depending on your skills, you may support the Big Careers Small Children Podcast promotion, including PR
  • Supporting our CEO with administration linked to PR (e.g. booking meetings)


Contribute to the wider success and growth of Leaders Plus 

  • Contribute to the ongoing development of our Fellowship, finding ways to help it scale further and reach more people nationally and internationally
  • Depending on skills, facilitate some sessions or workshops on the Fellowship
  • Support team to build the Alumni and Mentor engagement strategy
  • Support team efforts to ensure Diversity and Inclusion in all that we do
  • Commit to team culture, planning and strategy days
  • Support overall team with growing social media channels.

Context

About the Leaders Plus Fellowship Programme

  • The Leaders Plus Fellowship is an award-winning, evidence-informed Programme designed to support talented individuals to stay on the leadership pipeline and continue to develop their careers while enjoying their young families.
  • The aims of the Fellowship are to:

a.) support parents with young children to develop and progress their careers and

b.) support them to become part of a positive movement for change so all parents can progress to leadership roles.

Location: Any UK location. Open to any form of flexible and remote working (e.g. term time only contract, job share etc, three days in four etc). Our co-working space is based in London and you will be joining us for meetings in London approximately once a month.
