Big Issue Invest is the social investment arm of The Big Issue.
We were set up in 2005 to finance the growth of sustainable social enterprises and charities. Our goal is to continue supporting organisations that deliver positive change for people and communities across the UK.
Big Issue Invest offers loans and investment.
From £20k to £3m to social enterprises, CICs, Community Benefit Societies and charities. We currently manage or advise on £170m-worth of social funds and we have a range of funds, products and programmes tailored to support every stage of an organisation's development, from start-up to maturity.
We work with a broad range of investors.
Including private and institutional investors, corporates and foundations, helping them to deliver significant social impact while generating a financial return. At Big Issue Invest we manage risk prudently, prize fairness and diversity and always strive to act with integrity.
We measure our success in terms of the impact we create.
Almost all our investees are unable to raise mainstream finance but because we are a social enterprise born out of a social enterprise, we have a unique understanding of the opportunities and challenges they face. We seek to build relationships and trust with our customers, which enables us to identify the best financial solution for them. We are proud to report that 80% of our investees became more financially sustainable as a result of our investment - more than half were able to recruit more staff last year. As over 50% of our investees are working in the 25% most deprived areas of the UK, we are not just helping them further their social objectives but are also creating jobs in communities that most need them.
