The purpose of the Escape 100 list was to find the best organisations to escape to in 2021. We looked at many factors including their organisational purpose and environmental impact to draw up the list.

Hi Alex, why don't you introduce yourself to the Escape community?

I’m Alex and I live in London. I started my career in the fashion industry, but moved away from the sector in 2018, looking to find more purpose in what I do. I was thrilled to find a role at Too Good To Go advertised in late 2020, a company that I’d admired since it’s launch in the UK back in 2016.

What do you do at Too Good To Go?

I’m the Key Account Lead for our On The Go Food segment, which includes some of our biggest partners like Costa Coffee, Greggs, Starbucks, Pret, Caffe Nero & YO! Sushi.

Our team develops the great relationships we have with our On The Go partners, as well as building new relationships with brands so that we can continue to save as much food from going to waste as possible.

What was it that drew you to apply to work there?

I’ve always been a Waste Warrior in my home life, and so I loved the idea of working for a company doing something every day that I truly believe in and being able to really measure that positive impact.

What was the hiring process like?

Very slick! Maggie & David got back to me very quickly with feedback at every stage of the process, and each interview was clearly explained.

I particularly liked the short, snappy videos I had to submit as part of my initial screening process; it was a refreshing hiring approach and a really nice way to showcase my personality, which told me a lot about the company from the start.

How have your first few months with Too Good to Go been?

The onboarding process was very well organised, meeting as many people across the business as possible. Even starting virtually, I’ve felt extremely well supported and welcomed, and some great team events, celebrations and regular exercise classes have helped with that - from day one I could tell everyone really lives the Too Good To Go values. The first few months have flown by, and I’m pleased to say I already feel like a long-standing member of the team.

What are you most excited about in your new role?

The potential to save even more food waste! We’ve hit some incredible milestones in the UK team since I’ve joined already, saving over 3 millions meals, but it really feels like there is no limit to what we can achieve, and everyone is empowered to impact that directly.

For anyone considering applying for a role with Too Good to Go, what tips or advice would you give them?

I’d say remember to be yourself and showcase your personality, as well as your passion for fighting food waste! There are also some incredible educational resources on our website about the marketplace as well as the Too Good To Go Movement, so make sure to take a look at that, too.

Thanks, Alex!
