What you'll learn

The mindset that we bring to a negotiation can determine the outcome we get. According to the Happiness Advantage by Shawn Achor, people with a positive mindset are 31% more productive and effective, including in the art of negotiation. For various reasons, some of us caveat salary negotiations or money conversations with an apology, or refer to it as unimportant, secondary or boring. Have you ever found yourself saying something like: ‘Money isn’t a key driver for me, but what is the salary on offer for this role?’ or ‘Sorry to bring this up, but can we discuss fees?’ or ‘I’m not doing it for the money, but I think my pay is under the market value for this role’. Never apologise or belittle a discussion about salary or fees. Employment is a reciprocal relationship. We give our time, skills and add value to a company in return for a paycheck and other benefits. Believing that you are compensated well for the work that you do is a key ingredient to fulfilling work. In this course we'll teach you how to craft a better mindset for negotiations, the common mistakes of would-be negotiators and how to make the process really work for you.
