The B Corp Movement

Certified B Corps seek to redefine success in business by putting social and environmental impact on a par with profit. The B Corp community is a global movement of businesses who provide leadership by demonstrating their commitments to people and planet and create examples of success for others to follow. There are now over 4,500 B Corps in over 77 countries and covering 150 sectors, including Patagonia, The Body Shop, the Guardian, Divine Chocolate and Ella’s Kitchen.

B Lab was created as part of this movement in 2006 with the mission to inspire and enable people to use business as a force for good. There are B Labs across the globe and our purpose is to redefine success in business through building a community of engaged businesses, raising awareness of the B Corp movement and championing change in the UK economy. 

The role of Head of Growth 

The Head of Growth will play a crucial role in facilitating the growth of the B Corp movement in the UK and enhancing the customer journey for businesses aiming for B Corp certification. The role will be responsible for increasing awareness of B Corp, strategically growing the community and leading on developing the certification approach for large businesses. 

The role sits within the Growth and Product team in the UK, and will be supported by B Lab teams around the world, as well as B Lab Global.

The role 

  • Support the Director of Growth & Product on the vision and strategy for the growth of the B Corp community and its delivery 
  • Lead on development and and delivery of B Lab UK’s strategy for engaging large and multinational businesses in the B Corp movement and work with B Lab Global to progress the value proposition
  • Develop networks in key growth areas (specific sectors and regions) to drive awareness and interest in B Corp certification and delivering results in increased applications certification from these areas
  • Identify and grow partnerships to support founders from diverse backgrounds joining the B Corp community
  • Account management of large companies through the Large Enterprise certification journey 
  • Leading calls with and delivering presentations to leadership teams in large companies
  • Oversee the Growth & Product team’s risk management strategy for companies seeking certification 
  • Work with the Certification Manager to create an exceptional customer journey for companies joining the B Corp community
  • Line management of 2 direct reports

Experience

  • Experience in setting and successfully delivering a strategy 
  • Substantial experience in customer service, account management or client-facing roles
  • Previous experience in managing direct reports  

Desirable but can be developed in the role 

  • Prior success winning business and new accounts 
  • Working knowledge of existing sustainability standards
  • Experience working with remote teams in a fast-paced, international environment. 
  • Previous experience in developing risk management strategies
  • Have successfully created or improved customer or client journeys

Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to build relationships and networks and develop opportunities which arise 
  • Creatively solve problem and improve systems and processes 
  • Excellent Presentation, written and oral communication skills 
  • Good IT skills with familiarity with these (or comparable) platforms: Salesforce, Asana, Slack, Google Suite, Freshdesk.

  • Ability to see the bigger picture and to develop strategies to achieve B Lab UK’s objectives, at the same time responding to detailed issues 
  • Quick learner and has a flexible approach, able to operate effectively within complexity and change
  • Excellent time management and meet deadlines whilst under pressure 
  • Naturally collaborative, enjoys working within teams and across team, including internationally
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic start-up environment where work is varied, fast paced, and hugely rewarding
  • Passionate about the role that business can play in creating the future that benefits all people and the planet.
  • Eligible to work in the UK (we will not be able to provide visa sponsorship)
