Apollo Research is at the forefront of addressing the challenges and risks associated with the rapid advancements in AI technology. We focus on the phenomena of deceptive alignment or scheming, where AI models may appear aligned but can actually evade human oversight. Our work includes building evaluations, studying the science of scheming, and developing mitigations against such risks. We collaborate with leading frontier AI companies to test and improve AI models before their deployment.

The role: As a US/NatSec Specialist at Apollo Research, you will be instrumental in developing and managing our engagement with the US administration and the broader Intelligence Community. This includes building relationships with technical researchers, legal scholars, the international AI safety and security community, and government officials to enhance the US government's situational awareness and preparedness for AI-related issues.

Job requirements: The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 6 years of professional experience, with at least 3 years in the U.S. intelligence community, such as the National Security Agency or the Department of State. You should have previously obtained a security clearance (at minimum, confidential clearance) and possess a robust understanding of decision-making processes across the intelligence community. A Masters degree or Ph.D. in a related field is required. Experience in AI or AI-related areas, conducting policy-relevant research, and developing policy proposals is highly desirable.

Benefits: Apollo Research offers a competitive salary range of USD 150,000 to 240,000 per year, flexible work hours, unlimited vacation and sick leave, paid work trips, and a yearly professional development budget of $1,000. Our culture emphasizes truth-seeking, goal-orientation, constructive feedback, and a supportive work environment.

How to apply: Interested candidates should complete the application form on our website and submit their CV. Links to relevant work samples are welcome. The interview process includes multiple stages, such as a screening interview, a take-home test, technical and team fit interviews, and a final interview with our CEO.
