The Role TED is seeking a Technical Producer with deep expertise in event IT networking, AV systems, simulcast, and temporary event power. You'll lead technical planning and delivery for TED's flagship conference—overseeing vendor strategy, infrastructure design, onsite execution, and coordinated pre-planning with the wider TED event teams. This is a contract role from January 2026 to April 2026.
What You'll Do Plan and deliver technical infrastructure, lead early-stage technical planning across electrical, power distribution, and IT networking. Collect requirements from all workstreams and translate them into clear, actionable technical scopes. RFP, select, and manage electrical, networking, and infrastructure vendors; ensure venue readiness and compliance. Oversee onsite install, testing, validation, and handoff in partnership with specific TED teams. Own AV, lighting, and equipment deployment, consolidate AV and rental needs across teams; run competitive RFPs and negotiate contracts. Supervise delivery, setup, continuity, and strike for AV, lighting, and computing equipment. Maintain TED standards and quality across all spaces. Execute large scale simulcast operations, work within TED operations to define simulcast layout, screen requirements, sound, routing, and distribution. Manage, monitor logistics and placement; oversee stands/builds and all visual/audio feed paths. Ensure seamless onsite execution and feed reliability across locations.
Vendor, Budget, and Project Leadership Build strong vendor relationships; manage schedules, change orders, and daily communication. Develop and track budgets, reconcile invoices, and proactively flag risks. Ensure projects are delivered efficiently and on schedule, providing consistent updates and project progress as necessary (meetings, written requests, etc.) Provide timelines, documentation, and updates; run cross-team planning meetings. Maintain & update event details and shared databases, budget tracking tools, presentations, and operational materials on a regular and ongoing basis. Uphold TED's brand and experience standards.
Qualifications 5+ years in technical event production with increasing responsibility. Proven vendor and contract management experience. Strong fluency in event power, IT networking, AV, simulcast workflows, and equipment rentals. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Highly organized, proactive, and calm under pressure. Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Airtable. Desirable Degree/diploma in event management, project management, or similar. Experience with multi-venue or simulcast-heavy events. Familiarity with venue electrical standards and IT security.
