Introduction to the role

To manage the sales and performance across the divisions in nominated affiliate markets, supporting growth and achievement of budgets and strategic objectives.   These four imprints represent the commercial powerhouse of HarperCollins’ trade publishing divisions, publishing authors as diverse as Robin Sharma and Karin Slaughter, Agatha Christie and Ant Middleton, Mandy Robotham and Lionel Shriver, as well as innovating globally in digital-first and digital-led publishing and IP development.   You will be part of the team responsible for the commercial success of these authors and brands, thereby helping to deliver growth for the Group and our affiliated international businesses worldwide.

You will be expected to act autonomously, in terms of day-to-day activities with your accounts & within your markets.  You will be able to work alongside senior colleagues to make decisions that affect the divisional P&L (acquisitions, print/price decisions, other internal meetings etc). 

Key tasks and accountabilities

  • Accountability for the performance for your divisional titles and imprints in nominated international markets and territories.

  • Able to represent the wider international sales team in publishing meetings, including with external stakeholders/authors, and contribute to publishing decisions (P&Ls, marketing/planning/title strategy meetings) when required.

  •  Deliver or exceed sales targets and other agreed objectives with a focus for profitable sales.

  • Publishing, sales and marketing strategies that support our international partnerships (including overseas companies) and drive growth; positive and constructive relationships with internal contacts – particularly publishing teams and business managers.

  • Excellent customer relationships which foster collaboration and understanding, and drive business growth and profit

  • Knowledge of the wider Group business to inform divisional activity

Skills required

  • An aptitude for selling: results-driven, entrepreneurial, strong on relationships, and able to adapt to customers’ requirements but also to push them to support our priorities

  • A happy traveller, committed to getting to know your markets from the ground up

  • Good communicator, in person and remotely (phone/email)

  • Accountable for your own decisions and results, but able to share credit where it’s due and acknowledge and learn from mistakes

  • Able to demonstrate awareness of key international markets and how our publishing can fit these markets

  • Financially aware; able to make informed predictions and analyse results to inform future decision making

  • Organised, able to prioritise, agile and quick to respond to customers and internal stakeholders alike

  • A team player; effective with all colleagues, willing to help others where necessary, and contributing as widely as possible to our international success.

  • Ambition for yourself and for the company, an appetite to see HC succeed, and to develop your own career within the business
