About
The Good Ancestor Movement exists to support the just transition from extreme and concentrated wealth to a regenerative, redistributive and reparative society.
It is a radical, innovative organisation working to reimagine the private wealth industry and the practices and norms of wealth holders to support the new economy.
We work directly with wealth holders on defining their values and mapping those against wealth practices that uphold rather than undermine them. Our work covers the spectrum of tax, investment, wealth planning, repair and business ownership.
We realise that we cannot – and do not want to – build a single firm that provides advisory to all progressive wealth holders. Instead, our strategy is to help progressive voices within the mainstream industry to be heard and to influence the entire sector.
One of our key strategies is to support clients to move away from mainstream investments in listed companies and instead direct their money towards community led and owned ventures and initiatives, which centre economic sovereignty and self-determination of communities who have been harmed by the dominant economy. Most of these wealth holders are not looking for financial returns on their investments beyond return of capital.
The Role
We are looking for a Senior Movement Builder to work on two key aspects of our work.
The first is building our Progressive Advisor Movement – a movement of people working within the private client industry who want to help the industry to evolve and transform. This is sensitive work for many of those involved who are working across firms and disciplines in a non-competitive way in order to help change the sector (and society more broadly).
This group has access to most of the world’s wealthiest families and the services they offer, the culture they bring and the education and ideas they provide is of huge consequence to the world.
The movement model involves crowd-sourcing ideas and insight from progressive advisors within the industry about how the industry can transform and then platforming those back through media, events, direct dissemination and spokespeople.
We currently have around 60 advisors we are engaging with regularly and are launching our first piece of research in December 2022 alongside a private wealth summit looking at the future of the trusted advisor.
The second part of the work involves community building amongst wealth holders who are interested in being part of the progressive wealth movement.
This will involve engaging former, current and prospective Good Ancestor Movement clients as well as others who are on their own journeys. You will help bring them together to learn, exchange ideas, models and stories and for us to share our own content and platform that of others to this community.
This is an idea that we have consulted with a number of clients about and we have ideas around how to shape but have not yet begun executing.
