Role Description

The General Assembly “Regal” team (that’s regulatory + legal, of course) is a critical partner to every department at GA.  While working with our clients, we focus on getting to “yes” in an efficient and effective manner, with minimal risk and maximal fun.

As Associate General Counsel for International, you’ll build and execute on our legal strategy outside the US - primarily in EMEA and APAC. Our ideal candidate is a generalist who is skilled at translating legal requirements into operational best practices for internal clients, including our product, marketing, HR, and enterprise teams.  Your goals will be to develop creative solutions to legal hurdles faced by GA’s unique educational products, reduce risk exposure, and preserve the legal and ethical integrity of the company.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic and tactical legal advice to our business and campus teams across a wide range of subject areas including data privacy, employment law and employee classification, consumer protection, and higher education regulations.
  • Work with HR and our parent company, the Adecco Group, to develop best-in-class policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to cross-functional teams as a trusted advisor, creative problem-solver, and strategic thinker.  Translate relevant legal requirements into plain english so other stakeholders can understand their obligations, and collaborate to ensure operational and product compliance
  • Provide legal and business advice on a wide range of matters related to international expansion and operations, including corporate, privacy, regulatory, government relations, and consumer protection.
  • Keep abreast of regulatory and policy developments involving higher education, reskilling and upskilling in EMEA and APAC, and liaison with business stakeholders to strategically think about new and existing products, delivery channels, business lines and programs.
  • Have fun and work with passionate and mission-driven human beings

Ideal Candidates

  • Legally qualified in one or more of GA’s international markets with ideally 7-10 years minimum relevant experience. Ideally you live and work in the UK.
  • Creative problem solver who combines an ability to navigate ambiguity with a sense of humor
  • You have experience working independently in a fast-paced environment, but also view relationships with your clients and other stakeholders as key to your success and build and maintain trust with those individuals and their teams
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize effectively, and to drive and improve internal process to increase efficiency.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.  You are able to advocate for a position while maintaining a collaborative and open-minded approach
  • You have a can-do attitude and willingness to roll up your sleeves, and a desire to get into the details of the business and legal work of the company - no job too big or small.

This remote position can only be performed from the UK.
