Active England specializes in creating unforgettable active tours and holiday packages throughout England. We’re looking for driven and engaging ‘people’ to join our expanding team in 2023. Tour guiding is a way of work in a busy, dynamic, fun and engaging working environment! Some days our guides are leading guests walking through the Cotswolds to a champagne toast in the local museum, other days you are leading a group hiking over the tallest peaks in the Lake District in pouring rain. We are experts in cycling and walking tours and a combination of other activities from paddle sports and swimming through to slower and more luxurious travel. Our freelance guides are the heart of our tours, leading guests through our wonderful landscapes, using the backroads and routes, drinking in the locals’ pubs, eating in fine restaurants, and immersing our guests in England at its most beguiling. Safety and security are of paramount importance, with all freelance guides receiving full training and relevant courses, including paid qualifications such as as:
First aid Level 3
Private Hire License
Cycle UK Leader
Basic Bike Maintenance
Alongside knowledge training
Tours average around 6 days, operating throughout the Cotswolds, Devon, Cornwall and the North of England. We run our own direct trips as well as through North American and UK Operators. Working opportunities for new guides could be any subject of days with our holiday packages of 6 days being the average length of a tour.
All guides are paid on a day rate, working freelance within the company. Our working opportunity can range from 2 weeks of the year to becoming a more full time guiding position for the right candidates.
As of January 2023, we are particularly interested to hear from individuals with a background in nature and studies in environmental fields for our 'Natural' tours. We are also interested in guides and people with a background in 'finer things' to lead our luxury tours. With largest concentration for candidates in the Cotswolds or happy to travel to work in this region. Please do get in touch to ask any questions.
We are looking for a real mixture of people with diverse interests – so if you’re a wild swimmer / hiker / cyclist / kayaker or even a forager then we’d love to hear from you. Guides must be 25 or over, holders of a UK driving license, and love people – pretty simple really! We are a fun, sociable, supportive working team and look forward to expanding our company for another year of tour season!
