C40 is a collaborative network of almost 100 of the world's leading cities, dedicated to tackling the climate crisis with an evidence-based and people-centered approach. Funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies and Realdania and steered by a panel of C40 mayors, our goal is to limit global warming to 1.5°C while fostering healthy, equal, and resilient communities.
Role Summary:
- Work with the Global Head of Adaptation Finance
- Collaborate with Resilient Urban Futures and Africa Regions teams
- Engage with financial institutions and African cities
- Oversee technical outputs from consultants
- Lead the successful execution of key events
Role Requirements:
- Relevant degree in climate adaptation, sustainability, environmental studies, urban planning, finance, economics, or related discipline
- Prior experience in urban project development or financial planning, preferably within the climate adaptation finance field
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Experience working alongside or within local governments
- Advanced English-speaking and writing abilities
- Proficiency in French preferred but not essential

Our team, led by Executive Director Mark Watts and guided by a Steering Committee of C40 mayors, operates globally with strategic funding from Bloomberg Philanthropies and Realdania.
The role: As the Manager, Adaptation Finance, you will work closely with the Global Head of Adaptation Finance and collaborate with the Resilient Urban Futures and Africa Regions teams. Your responsibilities will include engaging with financial institutions and African cities, overseeing technical deliverables from consultants, and leading the successful delivery of key events. This position requires some international travel and is a dynamic opportunity to deepen expertise in climate adaptation and finance.
Job requirements: The ideal candidate should have a relevant qualification in climate adaptation, sustainability, environmental studies, urban planning, engineering, finance, economics, or a related field. Demonstrated experience in urban project development or financial planning, particularly within the climate adaptation finance field, is essential. Strong analytical skills, problem-solving abilities, and experience working with or within local governments are required. Advanced-level written and verbal communication skills in English are necessary, and proficiency in French is desirable.
