The Role

National Account Manager plays a significant role within our sales team, responsible for driving sales growth through some of our largest customers. The National Account Manager (grocery) is responsible for the specific account management of ASDA, Morrisons, and Holland & Barrett as well as winning new Grocery business. It is your role to ensure we win at fixture, grow the quantity and quality of off shelf feature and deliver our plans in a commercially sustainable manner. This role must own the financial and demand forecasts for these customers as well as any internal or external needs for these customers.

In a nutshell, you are responsible for:

1. Leading the external agenda for your customers including JBPs and business terms

2. Best in Class Key Account Management

3. New business development within the grocery channel

4. Delivering the financials and the forecast – you will need to deliver forecast accuracy of 80%+ and you will also be responsible for delivering the full year budget across Net rev, GP, GP%, ensuring trade spend is managed effectively, in line with budget and strategy

5. Working closely with the Sales Director to create the annual budgeting and strategy for your customers. This should be inline with the overall commercial and business strategy, ensuring that we deliver on our three year goals. 

In more detail, this means:

  • Best in class account management – category leadership, clear shopper strategy, brand days, clear sell-in approach, playbooks by customer, total ownership of the financials, forecasts and retailers’ plans.
  • Representing the needs of your grocery customers internally – Act as the key spokesperson internally for the needs of your grocery customers and shape our internal plans to deliver on this. Ensure these needs are built on data and strategy and not “the whims” of the buyer
  • Building a wide network across the trade – developing a strong network of contacts at all levels and supporting the Sales Director, Head of Grocery and Founder with top to top meetings
  • A commercial lead for key strategic projects – Leverage existing knowledge and all available data points to support the product and Marketing Team to develop the best possible product proposition and selling story for our customers and lead the commercial team to ensure delivery of budget in line with the three year plan
  • Help foster a positive culture across the business– As a key member of the team, it is critical that you play a role in fostering a positive, collaborative and safe environment across all the key stakeholders
  • An ambassador for Bcorp and sustainability within your retailers – have your finger on the pulse with the retailers’ sustainability strategies and align our plans with theirs. Look for ways to drive the Bcorp agenda.

Specific knowledge, qualifications, skills & experience required:

  • National account management experience, ideally within the Grocery channel within food & drink industry (2-3 years minimum)
  • Experience of managing a sales profit and loss and clear demonstration of delivering to budget
  • Ability to negotiate and build best in class relationships with our customers at all levels
  • Confident and commercially savvy – you must feel comfortable interacting with internal and external stakeholders at varying levels and apply business commercial acumen to your thinking
  • A team player – willing to go the extra mile to help others and be collaborative with your approach

6. Your birthday off and other Squirrel Days – on top of your 25 days holiday we also give every person in the team their birthday off, half days on Fridays in August and a half day on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve.

7. Flexi-working – we know that not everyone works the same and that sometimes you need to be more flexible. That’s why we have core office hours of 10am – 4pm and you can make up your hours earlier or later depending on if you’re an early bird or night owl.

8.Working from home and anywhere - We also encourage you to work from home at least two days a week (Mon & Fri, with Tue-Thur in the Nest) and, if you've ever fancied working from a beach house in the Maldives, you are allowed to work from anywhere in the world for up to 4 weeks of the year!

9. Remote Working Equipment – all equipment will be provided including laptop and screen(s)

10. Finally our office is based in Shoreditch London, a great location for food at lunch and a drink or two after work.
