Role Summary
- Monitor and manage Samaritan's social media channels, ensuring content is appropriate for our audiences.
- Develop and maintain response templates and moderation guidelines.
- Provide advice, support, and training to branches and volunteers managing their social media.
- Work with our moderation agency to ensure quality and coverage.
- Analyse audience engagement and feedback to identify improvement areas.
Role Requirements
- Experience in social media management for a cause or high-profile brand.
- Good digital copywriting skills and understanding of digital marketing channels and techniques.
- Ability to communicate sensitively, particularly around mental health issues.
- Familiarity with Sprout Social is a plus.

At Samaritans, we are excited to offer an interim opportunity for a Social Media Officer to join our high performing team. This 12-month fixed-term contract is a maternity cover role, where you will lead on engagement with our online communities and shape our social media presence across various channels.
The role: You will monitor Samaritan's social media channels to ensure content is appropriate for our audiences. Your responsibilities include developing, maintaining, and updating standard response templates and moderation guidelines. You will provide timely and appropriate responses to a wide range of people engaging with Samaritans over social media. Additionally, you will develop social Q&As for key campaigns, policy positions, and news events in collaboration with other teams. A significant part of your role will be to provide advice, support, and training to branches and volunteers managing their own communities via social media. Working closely with our moderation agency, you will ensure adequate out-of-hours coverage and quality check responses. You will also analyze audience engagement and feedback to identify trends and areas for improvement.
Job requirements: We are looking for someone with experience working on social media for a cause, campaign, or high-profile brand, or in communications or marketing. You should have great digital copywriting skills and a strong understanding of digital marketing channels and techniques. Experience in responding to a varied range of enquiries via social media is essential. A creative approach to creating and publishing digital content and the ability to communicate sensitively, particularly around issues involving mental health and suicide, are crucial. Familiarity with Sprout Social is desirable, as is experience working with volunteers or within the charity sector.
