Balance of Plant (BoP) Engineer

Department: Development + Construction

Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time

Location: UK - London

Reporting To: Head of Project Construction

Description

The BoP Engineer is a key role for scaling Field. You will be key to putting the contracts in place to deliver our projects and ensuring they progress smoothly through the technical due diligence process in the run up to financial close.  Initially this role would focus on battery energy storage, but we are scaling quickly and plan to move into new technologies and more diverse projects.

Key Responsibilities

This is a specialist role with the opportunity to have a massive impact. Key responsibilities include:


  1. Understanding the technical details of the civil and electrical scope of each project

    1. Understand property, planning and grid connection details from our development team
    2. Support the procurement of ground investigation and technical studies such as Abnormal Indivisible Load studies and earthworks strategies to ensure we are well-positioned to negotiate water-tight contracts


  2. Preparing the technical aspects of and support new tenders by:

    1. Ensuring Field’s Employer’s Requirements remain fit for purpose
    2. Continuously improving our interface management, commissioning and take over procedures
    3. Feeding lessons learnt from current projects into our future contracts
    4. Assembling the project documents needed in our contracts
    5. Visiting sites with contractors


  3. Undertake the technical aspects of tender evaluation

    1. Ensure contractors’ proposals are fit for purpose
    2. Rigorously and fairly evaluate tender responses
    3. Work with the procurement team to make recommendations to the business


  4. Technically support the contract negotiation phase of our projects, alongside Legal and Procurement teams (for balance of plant and Independent Connection Provider contracts) by:

    1. Working with suppliers to finalise the technical contract schedules
    2. Navigate commercial negotiations to find engineering solutions acceptable to all parties


  5. Technically supporting the financing phase of our projects by overseeing technical due diligence exercises
  6. Programme management
    1. Use project management tools to communicate realistic timelines to the wider business


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise


  • Engineering, science or industry experience in a technical role
  • Experience working on contracts for energy projects (batteries, onshore and offshore wind, solar, peaking plants, interconnectors/HVDC, thermal power generation)
