About the role

This is a new role in our dynamic and expanding Communications team. It will lead on developing the organisation’s external voice in order to build our organisational influence and ability to deliver our cutting edge legal work to protect people and the planet. The Corporate Communications Lead will implement core elements of the organisation’s communications strategy, particularly through the use of media, external events, digital engagement and communications partnerships.   

ClientEarth has grown significantly in recent years, and we are now looking for an ambitious and talented individual who will help us increase awareness of our work and support our in-country teams on their regional corporate communications strategies. You will also work closely with colleagues from other parts of the External Affairs function, to connect our corporate communications work with other communications, public affairs, supporter engagement and fundraising work to increase impact.   

You will work with a committed and creative team to build and deliver our Corporate Communications Strategy in an organisation which values and supports communications. As this is a new role, you will play a big role in shaping ClientEarth’s approach to Corporate Communications.  

You will help us build our ability to tell compelling stories and produce creative and impactful communications that build our name and presence in our target markets, including telling our story to current and potential supporters. You will also work with the CEO and other individuals to build our range of external spokespeople and increase our visibility. 

Meet your Manager

In this role, you will be managed by Jon Bennett, who is based in London. Jon leads the Global Communications team, which helps our lawyers achieve their aims using the full suite of communications tools. He joined ClientEarth in 2015 as a Communications Manager, supporting the organisation’s high profile litigation work. Before ClientEarth he worked in various third sector communications roles having begun his career as a regional journalist in the UK.

Main Duties

  • Strategy - Create and implement aspects of our Communications strategy with a special focus on building our influence and visibility. 
  • Media and PR - Find innovative and creative ways to tell our story through the media, podcasts, speaking opportunities and partnerships. 
  • Team Management and stakeholder management 

Role requirements

  • Fluent (CEFR level C2) in English
  • Substantial experience and proven success in leading corporate communications across multiple teams and geographies
  • Knowledge of international media outlets and contacts in these outlets
  • Experience in planning and leading strategic initiatives and ability to convene colleagues internally and ensure delivery of workstreams 
  • Strong understanding of the external context in which ClientEarth operates, including the wider NGO landscape and strong political awareness.
